Kate Middleton Surprises 94-Year-Old — and Gives Her a Minibus Ride to Remember
Stella, a 94-year-old resident of West Sussex, was pleasantly surprised when she saw Kate at her doorstep to accompany her to the lunch club.
Kate Middleton paid a surprise visit to Pulborough, England, today. Her solo outing commemorated the 50th anniversary of the West Sussex Minibus, a community transport organization. The volunteer-led initiative is known for providing transportation for those with mobility challenges or financial barriers. During the visit, the Princess of Wales was captured interacting with volunteers, picking up passengers, and enjoying a ride in the minibus.
During the pickup, Stella Drewett, a 94-year-old resident of West Sussex, was pleasantly surprised to see Middleton at her doorstep to accompany her to the lunch club in Pulborough. The Princess of Wales made two more pickups along the way, then went to the village hall; this special moment was shared on X.
While traveling the route, she learned from elderly passengers that the minibus was a vital lifeline that helped them stay engaged, nurture friendships, and participate in local events. Middleton concluded her volunteer service at Pulborough Village Hall, home to a weekly lunch club that fosters community through shared meals and activities.
"I couldn’t quite believe it. I am quite a new member. It’s a great service. I used to drive myself until I decided to spare the other road users. Everyone said to me, ‘But what are you going to do now?’ And I did think, ‘Oh gosh, what am I going to do now?’ But they take me to the supermarket once a week, and we go down to the village hall for the lunch club. It’s a very valuable service. It’s wonderful,” Drewett reacted later about her first-hand traveling experience with the Princess of Wales.
On a rare occasion, Middleton sported a chic ponytail that complemented her grey business style ensemble. She chose a stunning Jigsaw Wool Maxi City Coat in charcoal. The versatile piece was paired with a pussy bow blouse, grey trousers, and burgundy heels. Her minimal makeup accentuated her beautiful face, HELLO! reported. The cause, initially started with one volunteer and one minibus, has since expanded to eight village hubs, supported by 284 volunteers and 11 minibusses.
Middleton has been seen experimenting with business-chic blazers on her recent outings. During a solo visit to the Forward Trust for Addiction Awareness Week, she wore a double-breasted jacquard blazer by Max Mara, paired with dark chocolate cropped trousers and Joseph and Boden loafers, showcasing her classic style. This is the second royal visit the future queen has made in less than 48 hours, following a surprise outing with Prince William to Leeds on Tuesday.
