As many of us know, Prince William and Kate Middleton share a beautiful relationship that started as a university friendship and grew into a royal romance that gained everyone's attention. The pair first met in the early 2000s while studying at the University of St Andrews. Despite facing intense media scrutiny and even a little break in 2007, they reunited and eventually got engaged in 2010, with a grand Royal Wedding taking place in 2011. In all these years, they shared several memorable moments, but there's one that is resurfacing yet again. As per reports, Kate once helped William by pretending to be his girlfriend, even before they started dating.

The duo first became friends while they lived at St Salvator’s Hall at the University of St Andrews, and just by their second year, they grew close enough to move into a shared house on Hope Street. This was when their bond grew deeper, and even though they were 'just friends' at the time, there was an undeniable spark. It was also during this time that William attracted plenty of attention from his female classmates, but due to his extremely polite nature, he often struggled to reject anyone, as reported by the Daily Express.

However, he rarely had to handle those situations by himself, as Kate often stepped in to help. Royal expert Katie Nicholl shared one such moment in her book Kate: The Future Queen, which was revealed by the couple's mutual friend, Laura Warshauer. She said, "Will was getting really hit on by this girl at a party, and it was getting quite uncomfortable because he couldn't shake her off. He was being really polite, but this girl just didn't get the hint. All of a sudden, Kate came up behind him and put her arms around him. He said, 'Oh, sorry, but I've got a girlfriend,' and he and Kate went off giggling." Laura further added that Kate was the only girl in the room who could have done that.

The couple has also opened up about their relationship in various media interviews over the years. For instance, William once shared that from the moment he met Kate for the first time, he sensed there was something truly special about her that was worth exploring. He even agreed to the fact that their early friendship laid a strong foundation for their relationship, claiming that, in his view, building a bond as friends first is one of the greatest advantages any couple could have, as reported by InStyle.

Similarly, Kate also said, "I actually think I went bright red when I met you and sort of scuttled off, feeling very shy. But we did become very close friends from quite early." Meanwhile, William previously revealed that he proposed to his ladylove during a trip to Kenya. He said, "We had a little private time away together with some friends, and I just decided that it was the right time, really. We had been talking about marriage for a while, so it wasn't a massive surprise."
