Inside Prince William’s Reported Objection to Meghan Markle Wearing Princess Diana’s Jewelry
Prince William allegedly raised concerns about Meghan Markle wearing Princess Diana’s jewelry.
Princess Diana’s memory lives on through her children and grandchildren, largely because Prince William and Prince Harry have been working hard to keep the Princess’ memories alive. In fact, Meghan Markle has also tried to keep Diana close to her heart, frequently wearing her late mother-in-law's jewelry—including a stunning aquamarine ring—to honor her memory. However, it seems not everyone is on board with this plan. Apparently, William seems to have some very serious concerns about his sister-in-law wearing accessories connected to his beloved late mother, according to HOLA!
Markle recently stepped out with Harry for a special date night to attend the 40th anniversary gala of the David Foster Foundation. For the occasion, she opted for a deeply elegant, black floor-length gown, further elevated by a pair of diamond and sapphire earrings. This was not the first time, though, as the Duchess of Sussex has worn them several times through the years. These breathtaking picks also once belonged to the People’s Princess, who famously wore them during a memorable visit to Canada in 1986. Following her tragic passing, the jewelry was reportedly passed down to her younger son, Harry, who later gifted them to his wife.
Apparently, William had previously expressed concerns regarding Meghan wearing certain pieces of his mother’s jewelry. This claim was made by royal biographer Robert Jobson in his 2024 book, Catherine, the Princess of Wales: A Biography of the Future Queen. Discussing the matter, Jobson wrote, "I have been told that, still concerned about the [romantic] match, he'd sought assurances from the Queen that Harry's bride would not be wearing any of Princess Diana's jewellery, even though his own wife was allowed to wear it." While this report was never publicly confirmed by the Prince of Wales or the royal family, Jobson claimed that underlying tensions between the brothers were already running high around the time William was initially confirmed as Harry's best man.
Alas, it was reportedly made clear that even after William raised his explicit concerns back then, nothing has changed to date. Ironically, one of the most prominent pieces from Diana’s collection was present when Harry and Markle started their journey together, as he popped the question with a very special ring. Markle's engagement ring had a large diamond in the center from Botswana, flanked by two diamonds especially taken from his mother’s personal collection. When he was asked about this choice back in the day, Harry explained that he wanted to “make sure that she's with us on this crazy journey together." There is no doubt, therefore, that the couple keeps Princess Diana very close to their hearts and plans to continue doing so.
