Why Queen Camilla’s ‘Cinderella Moment’ at Parliament Opening Offered Charles Quiet 'Reassurance'

King Charles reportedly leaned on Queen Camilla for support during the State Opening of Parliament this year.

King Charles and Queen Camilla went full royal for the State Opening of Parliament. The pair arrived in style from Buckingham Palace to Westminster while riding the grand Irish State Coach. However, all eyes were on Camilla as she pulled out the George IV State Diadem from the safe, which had its own carriage for safety reasons. But according to experts, the tiara was worn by the Queen for reasons entirely different than pomp and show.

Even though the event is a regular royal tradition, Charles might have been under pressure amid growing tensions within the government. Camilla appeared to bring a sense of calm and continuity, offering reassurance not just to her husband but to the country as well. Body language expert Darren Stanton explained (via Marie Claire), “Camilla is really his rock; her more relaxed and light movements and expressions balance Charles’ intense focus.”

Stanton revealed his observations by emphasizing that Charles was able to ease himself with Camilla’s relaxed presence. He said, “You could see him looking to her for reassurance frequently as they entered parliament.” Staton also went on to describe that the reason behind Charles’ tension was due to Queen Elizabeth’s “glorious legacy,” which is why he works incredibly hard in these ceremonies. The King often gets compared to his mother, but his historic speech at the U.S. Capitol proved he was finally able to step out of her shadow.

However, the pressure still remains for Charles at such royal functions, and in contrast, Camilla was having her ‘Cinderella’ moment. Jewelry expert Nilesh Rakholia opined on the Queen’s choice of tiara by saying, “What stood out was the sense of continuity rather than spectacle.” He continued, “It was chosen to reinforce stability, heritage, and ceremonial permanence, which is exactly the role these pieces are meant to perform.”

Rakholia explained that royal jewelry at major events like the State Opening of Parliament often serves a bigger purpose beyond fashion, acting almost as a form of “visual diplomacy.” He suggested the pieces symbolize tradition, history, and the identity of the monarchy, while noting that Camilla still managed to add a softer and more personal touch to the look. The crown, which features 1,333 diamonds and dates back to 1820, holds huge historical and financial significance for the monarchy.

Camilla has been following the tradition of wearing white for the State Opening of Parliament, set by Queen Elizabeth before her. She wore a satin white gown and paired it with an ermine-trimmed cape alongside the King. For her first appearance as Queen in 2023, she re-wore the Bruce Oldfield coronation gown. She then switched to softer cream tones the following year in a Fiona Clare design. Clare also created the embroidered white dress Camilla wore this year.
