The rift between Prince Harry and Prince William has been a talking point since the royal feud. Tensions have simmered, mistrust has deepened, and the distance between the brothers has only grown. Now, a royal expert says the situation is no longer strained but worse than ever. Even as King Charles and Harry cautiously attempt a reconciliation, the same cannot be said for William and Harry. Their last public appearance together was at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022. Since then, there has been silence. And that silence, royal observers believe, is worrying.

Former royal editor Duncan Larcombe described the fallout as bleak. "There's no doubt the feud between them is worse than ever, so much has happened and there has been so much betrayal and fury," he said, which was reported by GB News. He warned that the lack of contact would only entrench the bitterness further. "The longer they don't speak, the deeper the feud will get."

William’s complete silence about Harry in public has added to the perception that the relationship is frozen. "He hasn't said a single word about his brother publicly in the time since their grandmother's death, which is a sign that frankly, the situation at the moment is just dire," Larcombe said.

The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex briefly came together last year, as they both attended a family memorial service. Prince Harry flew in from the United States to join Prince William at St Mary’s Church in Snettisham, Norfolk, where a service was held in memory of their late uncle by marriage, Lord Robert Fellowes. The church lies close to the Sandringham Estate, a place long associated with the royal family. A source present at the gathering confirmed that both brothers were there, the BBC reported. A church warden who asked not to be named said, “It was wonderful that both princes were able to attend their uncle’s memorial service yesterday at St Mary’s Church. The service was a lovely family occasion celebrating the life of such a special man.”

However, reports suggested the reunion was far from warm; the princes “kept their distance” during the service and were not seen speaking to one another. The issue of reconciliation remains unsettled, with questions over who should make the first move. "Harry said in an interview at the start of this year that the ball was now effectively in William's court, in terms of triggering any changes in their relationship. But I'm not sure that's how William sees it. I think the apologies need to come from Harry, not William's side," Larcombe explained.

Harry, however, is showing some willingness to reconnect with at least one member of his family. He will return to the UK without Meghan Markle to attend the 20th annual awards of a charity he supports, honouring young people facing serious health challenges.

Larcombe suggested that the visit could open the door for a private meeting with King Charles. "From what I've heard, Harry is quite keen to see his father. Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen. But his coming over to England is at least a chance for them to meet and start the process of trying to build bridges," he noted.
