Expert Breaks Down Camilla’s ‘Brainwashing’ Comment About Prince Harry & Meghan Markle
According to a royal expert, Camilla’s comment isn’t just a personal jab but echoes a widespread belief behind palace doors.
A new royal firestorm is raging after Tom Bower’s latest book Betrayal: Power, Deceit And The Fight For The Future Of The Royal Family, hit the shelves. Amid many bombshell revelations, another stinging allegation within the pages of the biography is bringing light to the alleged broken bond between Queen Consort Camilla and the Sussexes. The 78-year-old Queen reportedly told an acquaintance of hers that Meghan Markle was ‘brainwashing’ Prince Harry — and interestingly enough, royal expert Ingrid Seward is Team Camilla this time.
The claim in Bower’s book suggests that the “jovial lad about town” Harry once was has been replaced by a man “possessed by seeking revenge.” According to Seward, Camilla’s comment isn’t just a personal jab, but echoes a widespread belief behind Palace doors. Speaking to The Mirror, she said that the terminology fits the reality of the Duke’s situation — suggesting that his complete U-turn on the institution he once served is so extreme that his former inner circle can make sense of it only through the lens of ‘brainwashing.’ “My guess is it’s exactly the sort of thing Camilla would have said – you don’t have to be Einstein to realise that,” Seward observed, stating, “Brainwashing is an expression of someone of Camilla’s age, certainly, and I’m assuming she probably said it to one of her ladies-in-waiting.”
Seward believes Camilla is far from alone in her assessment — shared by many who have watched Harry’s transformation from a beloved royal rogue to an embittered exile. “Meghan is often a target because she’s so unpopular and appears to have rubbed a lot of people up the wrong way, so they don’t mind taking a swipe at her,” she added. Interestingly, the Duke and Duchess did not take the allegation lightly. Soon their legal team issued a brutal rebuttal, accusing Bower of being “fixated” on the couple, writing `“deranged conspiracy and melodrama.” Their statement further slammed the royal author, saying, “Those interested in facts will look elsewhere.”
Seward, however, warns that the couple’s all-out legal and PR defense might be doing more harm than good. By reacting with such heat to Bower’s biography, she argues, they are only strengthening the narrative that they are volatile. “Harry doesn’t believe in just allowing things to calm down – he is very protective of Meghan and obviously extremely annoyed and angry,” Seward explained. She continued, “The royal family probably does blame Meghan for everything that’s happened, and she may have told him to do something…all it does is make the story more juicy and keep the conversation going. It really doesn’t serve them.”
Harry’s outrage over the ‘brainwashing’ comment is dripping with irony, considering he spent much of Spare calling Camilla ‘dangerous’ and claiming he was “sacrificed” on her “personal PR altar.” Because of this, Seward finds the Duke’s current anger “slightly hypocritical,” noting that he often forgets his own role in the family’s public breakdown. “If he’s going to make these very strong statements…he needs to remember what he’s said previously, because it may come back and bite him,” the expert suggested.
As Prince Harry allegedly looks to mend fences with King Charles — using an invitation to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham — his continued public warfare with his stepmother is unlikely to help his cause. “I don’t think there is a relationship between Harry and Camilla at this point,” she claimed.
