Prince Harry has always had a difficult relationship with his stepmother, Queen Camilla. When it came to her marrying then-Prince Charles, Harry was not completely in favor, instead begging his father not to go through with the ceremony, deeming it 'unnecessary'. However, the Prince later allegedly 'U-turned' when his father refused to listen and chose to enjoy his special day.

According to GB News, an insider once detailed Harry’s attendance at his father’s wedding to Camilla in 2005. The source revealed that the Duke of Sussex was in high spirits as he witnessed the King finally marrying the love of his life. The source asserted, “My abiding memory about the wedding was how happy and excited Harry seemed.” Harry reportedly took a special interest in decorating the groom’s car. The insider claimed, “He and William came up with the idea of decorating their father’s Aston Martin as a send-off. He seemed pretty bought in... I am sure there were mixed emotions over the years, but all I can tell you is how he seemed at the time. And he was happy for his father.”

Harry and Prince William's childhood was anything but easy, divided between their love for their father and their mom, Princess Diana, as the media took to dissecting the marriage. Watching their parents’ divorce at a young age and then moving on with others wasn't challenging for the princes. The media was rife about Charles’s affair with Camilla, and the boys were expected to deal with it. Harry grew up not having an amicable relationship with his stepmother, and detailed his reasons for hating her in his memoir, Spare.

He penned, “Despite Willy and me urging him not to, Pa was going ahead," Time Magazine reported. "We pumped his hand, wished him well. No hard feelings.” The Duke added, “We recognized that he was finally going to be with the woman he loved, the woman he’d always loved.” However, the marriage did not make his relationship with his stepmother any better, as Harry accused Camilla's spokesperson of throwing him 'under the bus' in her bid to better her public image. Harry claimed that Camilla was 'dangerous' as she was willing to leak news of his drug use in 2002 to keep herself out of the spotlight and portray Charles in a positive light. In Spare, Harry also recounted having wondered if Camilla would be "like all the wicked stepmothers in storybooks."

The Prince further claimed that William, too, was furious as “Pa and Camilla’s people had planted a story or stories about him, and Kate, and the kids..." Harry added, "Give Pa and Camilla an inch, he [William] said, and they take a mile.” Admitting to being worried about Camilla entering their lives, Harry shared, “I had complex feelings about gaining a step-parent who, I believed, had recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar... In a funny way, I even wanted Camilla to be happy. Maybe she’d be less dangerous if she were happy?”
