Designer Reveals The Call To Kate Middleton’s Stylist That Changed His Relationship With Meghan
The French designer, in his new book, explained his disagreement with Meghan Markle, a point that left him confused.
In the world of fashion, Meghan Markle seems to have many connections and her fair share of issues. This is also true of the celebrated French fashion designer Roland Mouret. In fact, he opened up about the same in his new book, I Am Roland Mouret: The Butcher’s Boy Who Dressed the World. In an early excerpt which was recently released by The Times, Mouret recalled the moment that put him at a crossroads with Markle. He apparently called and offered some outfits to the then-to-be Duchess, after she began dating Prince Harry.

He offered these to help her because she would clearly have “a lot of functions” to attend. According to the excerpt from Mouret’s book, Markle replied, “Yes, please.” He further wrote, “I asked a member of my team to send a selection I had put aside to the palace. Leave them there as long as she wants them. Don’t follow up on it and do not talk about it to anyone at all, here or outside.”
Further, he explained that a member of his team later contacted Princess Kate’s stylist to arrange the possible return of these clothes, which had been sent to Markle.

While elaborating on this, Mouret wrote, “Meghan and Harry’s relationship became public. Then the same team member who had sent the clothes for Meghan decided, in an honest attempt to be efficient, to call Kate’s stylist at the palace and ask for Meghan’s dresses to be returned.”
This simple misunderstanding apparently left Markle sincerely furious. According to PEOPLE, he wrote about this in detail, saying, “Meghan was furious and called me, saying, 'You don’t realize what you’ve done! You’ve embarrassed me!”

Beyond this, Mouret also explained how he apologized. He reportedly told Markle that, “No, Meghan, it was just a mistake by someone who didn’t know. My apologies. I know it’s not good for you, and you want to do things privately.” Mouret further added how Markle replied, saying, You know now I can never wear your clothes again!”
Furthermore, the celebrated designer explained how the reaction apparently made no sense to him. Describing this, he wrote, “I didn’t see the logic of that, but I didn’t question it; Meghan’s decision not to wear my clothes was hers, not the palace’s, not anybody else’s. I don’t think anyone else cared.” Ultimately, what began as an extremely thoughtful gesture turned into an unexpected fallout that took years to repair.
