Camilla Lookalike Reveals Exact Moment the Public ‘Warmed Up’ to the Queen
A Queen Camilla lookalike has revealed the exact moment she believes public attitudes toward the Queen began to change.
Celebrity lookalikes are nothing new, but Queen Camilla’s impersonator may have just revealed something about Her Majesty that most of us might be wondering about. It is no secret that Camilla has been the victim of some vicious hate over the years, but recently, public perception of her seems to have changed. Let’s find out when and how that happened.
Camilla today enjoys something that once seemed almost unthinkable, and that is public affection and positive headlines. In fact, she has become one of the monarchy’s rare success stories in a family that is no stranger to controversy. But it was not always smooth sailing. Even though she still faces a few online trolls now and again, the backlash she faced years ago was much worse. And unless you have lived through that kind of scrutiny yourself, it is hard to imagine what it truly felt like.
Another person who can have a better understanding than most is none other than Camilla’s impersonator, Jane Mosse. The 73-year-old says she got a glimpse of the backlash after launching a Facebook page to promote her 2025 book, Being Camilla: Life as a Royal Lookalike. She revealed to The Telegraph, “I’ve never had that on my personal site, but I didn’t get a single compliment. It was all ‘the marriage breaker,’ ‘the rottweiler,' stories about Tampax. It was just horrible. I don’t take it personally, obviously. But you do wonder what it’s all about.”
As a professional royal lookalike, her work often depends on the Royal Family’s highs and lows, especially how the public happens to feel about them at any given moment. Having impersonated Camilla since 2011, she has had a front-row seat to the Queen’s changing reputation. And Mosse says that she felt a shift in reactions from people after one particular moment.
“Attitudes to the Queen began to change when Charles was diagnosed with cancer in 2024,” Moss explained. She continued, “She worked her socks off to try and head up the family and to do his jobs as well as her own. People really warmed to her then.” King Charles was diagnosed with cancer in 2024, and Buckingham Palace announced the news on February 5 of the same year. The King is still undergoing treatment, although it has been scaled down by a lot, and has reportedly experienced significant improvement.
During that challenging time, Camilla found herself juggling more than ever. While supporting Charles behind the scenes, she also stepped up publicly, keeping up with her own engagements and even taking on some of the King’s responsibilities as he cut back on appearances. She regularly reassured well-wishers about his condition and later admitted she had been trying to stop him from rushing back to work too soon. Either way, the tides began to change, and fans seem to have finally accepted Camilla as their beloved Queen.
