3-Year-Old Excitedly Jumps on Princess Kate During Outing — and Her Reaction Wins Hearts [Video]
The Princess of Wales was her warmest self as two little girls stole the show at Tuesday's St. Patrick's Day parade.
Princess Kate has long been known as something of a children's princess—and at this week's St. Patrick's Day parade, a spirited 3-year-old made a rather convincing case for why. During Tuesday's celebrations at Mons Barracks, Middleton found herself on the receiving end of unbridled toddler energy when Vienna, the 3-year-old daughter of Lance Sergeant Mills, who led the drums and pipes during the parade, spotted the princess and simply couldn't hold back.
As Middleton bent down to greet her, Vienna giggled, swung from her arms, and jumped on her legs with the kind of unfiltered joy only a child can get away with. Rather than flinch, Middleton leaned right into the moment. "Are you excited?" she asked the little girl warmly before telling her she had "beautiful hair" and breaking into applause as Vienna twirled, The Independent replied. The exchange, captured on X by royal reporter Cameron Walker, quickly melted hearts online.
It did not stop there. Another soldier's daughter, 3-year-old Mila, soon made her way over, and Middleton welcomed her just as warmly—taking her hands, admiring her green dress and bow, and asking if "mummy" had helped her get ready. For a mother of three who has always had a natural ease with little ones, it was hardly a surprise. Then, the Princess of Wales, honorary Colonel of the Irish Guards, attended the regiment's annual St. Patrick's Day Parade dressed impeccably for the occasion—an emerald green coat and matching hat, finished with the Irish Guards' gold shamrock brooch on her lapel and a spray of fresh shamrocks for a festive touch.

Her hair, styled in an intricate braided updo, didn’t go unnoticed either. Fashion stylist Leanne Jones told Hello! magazine, the look may have carried deeper meaning, noting that "traditional hairstyles often featured intricate plaits symbolizing status and identity." Jones went further, suggesting the deliberate combination was an act of homage. "No part of Kate's wardrobe is unplanned, so it wouldn't be surprising if the combination of rich green tones and this braided detail were a quiet tribute to Ireland today," she said.
Beyond the fashion, Middleton carried out her ceremonial duties with ease. She presented shamrocks to officers and guardsmen—and extended a sprig to Seamus, the regiment's beloved Irish wolfhound, officially named Turlough Mor, who serves as regimental mascot. The parade wrapped up with a royal salute and march past, during which Middleton took the salute as Colonel, a role she assumed in 2022 following the reshuffling of royal responsibilities after King Charles' accession.
Afterward, she joined the soldiers and their families in raising a customary glass of Guinness, smiling as the Irish Guards cheered three rounds of "Hip, hip, hooray" in her honor—though she took only a small sip. It was a detail that carried quiet significance. During a visit to Southwark Brewing Company in London just days earlier, on March 12, Middleton had shared that she is careful about alcohol following her cancer diagnosis.
