Royal Family Reunites at Windsor in Sweet Nod to Queen Elizabeth [See Photos]
A Family Gathering
There is never a dull moment in the royal household, be it family drama, gala nights, events, overseas trips, and so much more. Just while we were swooning over Princess Kate’s Italy tour, the other senior royals, namely, Duchess Sophie, Prince Edward, Princess Anne, and an unexpected royal, turned heads at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. The show will be taking place from Thursday, 14th to Sunday, 17th May 2026. For the unversed, the horse show used to be close to Queen Elizabeth’s heart, with her attending it every year since 1943 until her death, and now keeping her legacy alive, her kids, and taking it forward.
Crowd Buzzing
With people arriving in huge numbers for the Horse Show, it was quite an enthralling experience. Still, the highlight was definitely how all the senior royals unexpectedly twinned in shades of brown. To beat the chill, Sophie donned brown jeans paired with a jacket, coat, and suede boots for the day. She also had a scarf wrapped around her neck. Her husband, Edward, on the other hand, was seen packed with duties for the day but seemed to be missing his mother.
Emotional Edward
Dressed sharply in a brown tux paired with a blue checkered shirt and black tie, Prince Edward was found looking over the 1966 Land Rover Series IIa, which previously belonged to the late Queen. The Land Rover is now six decades old, but is still maintained as new by the royal staff as an ode to the late monarch. Known as the Queen’s favorite car, the vehicle remains special to the rest of the members of the royal family as well.
Surprise Element
While the senior royals arrived to attend the show and encourage the participants, it was Elizabeth’s favorite grandchild, Lady Louise Windsor, who reportedly was working backstage as staff with no special treatment. Event director Nick Brooks-Ward praised the 22-year-old, University of St Andrews student, on her hard work and added, “She's a great worker and a real asset to the team with no airs or graces. It's a proper paid job, and there's no special treatment because of who she is."
Headline Moment
While there are confirmed reports of her working backstage, no photos of Lady Louise were shared publicly. "It’s wonderful that [Lady Louise] has continued this close connection and taken such an interest,” added Brooks-Ward on Louise’s approach to lead a regular life with no royal backing. He continued, "She’s a great friend to the horse show, and we are very grateful to the King for letting us use his back garden, and we hope to see him at the show this year."
Mini Reunion
While Louise was a happy surprise for everyone, there was someone else also in attendance. Along with the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Anne was also present at the show, dressed in a long textured coat with green detailing and black boots. She was also spotted having a conversation with jockey Katie Jerram Hunnable after her win aboard First Receiver in the RoR Tattersalls Thoroughbred Ridden Show series qualifier for flat horses.
