5 Sweet Moments in Harry and Meghan’s Wedding That Not Many Noticed
Happy Anniversary Harry & Meghan!
Weddings are known to be memorable for having tiny, heartfelt moments close to the bride and groom’s hearts. And hidden between all the grandeur, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding from 2018 wasn’t so different. There were several touching experiences that quietly stole the spotlight during the historic ceremony. On account of the Sussex couple’s eighth wedding anniversary, some sweet details have come to light, revealing just how personal the day was to them.
More Than a Veil
One of the most meaningful details from Markle’s bridal look was hidden in her iconic 16.5-foot silk tulle veil. As per Kensington Palace, designer Clare Waight Keller decided to embroider flowers on it, meant to represent all 53 Commonwealth countries in the delicate fabric. It was done to pay tribute to the nations connected to Queen Elizabeth II. Meghan was also spotted in Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara, which the late monarch loaned to the bride herself. It added another layer of deeply symbolic royal connection to the wedding.
Bouquet of Tributes
Harry also made sure to make Princess Diana a major part of the ceremony, and he did so through Markle’s bouquet. As per Kensington Palace, the prince himself handpicked several flowers from the couple’s Kensington Palace private garden, including forget-me-nots, i.e., Diana’s favorite flowers. The bouquet also had sweet peas, astilbe, jasmine, and sprigs of myrtle as they continued a long-standing wedding tradition of blending personal meaning to the arrangement.
Heartbeat Moment
Prince Harry, in his 2023 memoir Spare, revealed just how emotional he felt as he waited for his bride at the altar in St. George’s Chapel. He found it “amazing” that he “could even hear the music over the sound of” his “own heartbeat as Meg stepped up and took” his “hand.” In the book, Harry also shared that he chose Handel’s Eternal Source of Light Divine as the tune to be played for Meghan’s procession. He elaborated that as she walked towards him, he felt grateful for all his “choices.” The intimate recollection gave royal fans a deeper insight into just how emotional these moments were for the couple.
Surprise Second Kiss
As royals are known to be reserved when it comes to public displays of affection, Harry and Meghan still managed to sneak in a playful moment during their anticipated ceremony. Right after their memorable balcony-style kiss outside St. George’s Chapel, the newlyweds couldn’t help but lock lips for the second time during their carriage procession at Windsor. The sudden moment was delightful for the royal enthusiasts and depicted the more modern, affectionate energy the couple brought to royal traditions throughout the day.
Of Tears and Tenderness
Even amidst all the elegance and grandeur during a globally televised wedding ceremony, Harry and Markle shared many deeply personal moments with one another. As per 121Captions, professional lip reader James Freeston revealed that when at the altar, Harry had quietly reassured his wife-to-be by saying, "Are you OK? You look amazing," right before the ceremony began. Later in the day, Markle also excitedly reacted after spotting her former drama teacher, Gigi Perreau, in the crowd during the carriage procession. The spontaneous ‘Oh my god’ moment added another dimension to how emotional and personal the day remained for the couple, despite the enormous royal spectacle they were surrounded by.
