Prince William Just Reminded Us of His Mom Diana in His Latest Tour (Photos)
Following in the Footsteps of His Late Mother
Over the years, we have come across several moments where Prince William appeared to follow in the footsteps of his late mother, Princess Diana. Be it through his relaxed personality, his willingness to engage personally with members of the public, or in other ways, the Prince of Wales has often shown a more approachable side of royalty. Looking back, this is something Diana was always adored for throughout her life, even earning the nickname 'People’s Princess'. Meanwhile, during William's most recent visit to the Isles of Scilly, some moments once again reminded us of Diana.
A Sweet Exchange
During his visit to the island, William stopped by a newly opened hospital and spent time with some of the elderly men and women there. Among them was 102-year-old Hilda Richards, who was admitted there following a fall at home. During their conversation, William asked her, “How are you feeling this morning?" To this, she replied, "Fine, thank you.” Right then, nurses informed the Prince that Richards was the island’s oldest resident, to which he responded, "I never ask a lady how old she is." This sweet and fun exchange echoed exactly the kind of warmth and ease that once defined Diana’s public appearances. She was admired for her ability to make elderly and sick people feel seen through heartfelt conversations.
Fun Chat with a 94-Year-Old
Another light-hearted moment unfolded when William met 94-year-old Dot Elvin, who was delighted by his visit and won him over with her sense of humor. Before he could even properly introduce himself, Elvin interrupted to ask whether he was planning to stay with them. William cheekily said, "Stay in your room? There's only one bed, Dot. It might be a bit cozy!" To this, she said, "I don’t care," leaving the prince laughing and slapping his leg. The playful exchange continued for a while, with William clearly enjoying every second of it. During her royal tours, Diana was also admired for her warm, down-to-earth nature and her effortless ability to connect with people.
Getting Down to Work
Another key stop on William’s itinerary saw him visiting a Duchy housing project featuring 10 newly built homes, created to tackle the growing housing challenges faced by residents. Locally known as the Duke of Cornwall, he even put on a blue construction hard hat and got involved in the project by hammering a nail into one of the homes under development. This look also sparked memories of Diana, who was seen embracing practical attire during some of her public engagements. For instance, she famously wore a hard hat while laying a ceremonial foundation stone at London’s Royal Marsden Hospital on June 6, 1990.
Fresh Off The Boat
Another memorable moment from the trip came when William arrived at the Isles of Scilly by boat on May 22, 2026. He arrived at Hughtown Harbour on St Mary’s aboard John Guy, which is a newly launched pilot vessel funded by the Duchy of Cornwall. It brought back memories of the late Princess, as she was often photographed arriving by boat, ferry, or yacht for many royal tours. For instance, she was spotted arriving by boat in Venice, Italy, during her 1995 tour. Additionally, beyond the visual similarity, it even reflected the relaxed energy that Diana carried during almost all of her public engagements.
The Heart Breakfast Interview
Before beginning his busy schedule of public engagements, the Prince of Wales made an appearance on Heart Breakfast radio show, alongside hosts Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston, and shared several personal insights and candid remarks. When looking back, we can clearly remember how his mother was also admired for letting glimpses of her personality shine through during public and media interactions. She often left behind all the rigid royal formalities, making interviews and appearances feel more personal and relatable to the audiences. Therefore, it's worth agreeing that William’s Isles of Scilly visit reflected the warmth that made Diana one of the most beloved royals in history.
