William and Kate’s Wedding Had an Unlikely Connection to Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s Big Day

It seems the billionaire couple and the Prince and Princess of Wales share a special love for a specific genre of music.

When Prince William tied the knot with Kate Middleton in 2011, he likely never imagined that over a decade later, a billionaire would draw inspiration from his fairytale nuptials. Fast forward to June 2025—Amazon titan Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez, said their 'I do's' in a jaw-dropping $50 million celebration. Their lavish nuptials, reeking in opulence, bore an unexpected link to those of the Prince and Princess of Wales. Bezos enlisted the same singer who performed at the royal wedding, while Sánchez turned heads in a gown strikingly reminiscent of Middleton’s iconic dress.

Bezos married former journalist Sánchez in Venice, Italy, on San Giorgio Maggiore island in the San Marco sestiere. As reported by the Royal Insider, Sánchez stunned in a Dolce & Gabbana lace dress, which reportedly cost over $300,000. Her gown also had a silhouette remarkably similar to Middleton’s iconic wedding dress, with both featuring elaborate lace embroidery. In 2011, Middleton's gown, designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, boasted a high neckline, layers of lace, and a graceful veil, mirroring Sánchez's. Both weddings costed millions of dollars, which is not surprising since Bezos is a successful business tycoon and William is the heir to the British throne.

It seems the billionaire couple and the Prince and Princess of Wales share a special love for pop music. According to People magazine, British singer Ellie Goulding performed at Sánchez and Bezos’ grand wedding reception. She also sang at Prince William and Middleton’s wedding and was reportedly invited to a more intimate celebration hosted by King Charles in the Throne Room. Goulding delivered a stunning rendition of Your Song, originally composed by Elton John, a close friend of William’s late mother, Princess Diana. Her sweet voice serenaded the royal couple during their unforgettable first dance. Goulding has also performed at several Earthshot Prize events, the environmental initiative founded by William to tackle climate change.

Sánchez and Bezos’ wedding has also drawn comparisons to then-Prince Charles and late Princess Diana's wedding in July 1981, which was hailed as the 'wedding of the century ' at the time. In fact, Sánchez's older brother, Paul, already predicted the similarities, telling TMZ, "I think it's gonna be like a Princess Di thing. It's gonna be an amazing event. It's gonna be star-studded and fun." Indeed, her brother was right, as Bezos' 2025 wedding is also dubbed as the 2000's 'wedding of the century,' boasting the same wealth and star power as Charles and Princess Di.

Middleton isn’t the only royal Sánchez seemed to draw inspiration from for her wedding gown. Her dress also bore a striking resemblance to the one worn by Lady Kitty Spencer, niece of Princess Diana and daughter of Diana’s brother, Earl Charles Spencer. Spencer's Dolce & Gabbana gown also featured intricate lace, a high neckline, and front buttons, similar to Sánchez's. She and her husband, Michael Lewis, tied the knot at Villa Aldobrandini in Frascati, Italy, much like the billionaire couple. Bezos and Sánchez's grand wedding reception is reported to have lasted for three days.
