What Could Be in Charles Spencer’s new Princess Diana Book? Key Details Revealed
EXCLUSIVE: A royal expert has given us a sneak peak of what we could possibly expect to be in Earl Spencer's new biography of his sister, Princess Diana
CHARLES Spencer, brother of Diana, the Late Princess of Wales shocked the world when he announced the release of a new book. His new project titled, ‘Swan Song: Diana My Sister’ is set contain new “revelations” which the 9th Earl of Spencer promises to be ‘considerable’ in scope.
Speaking exclusively to the Royal Observer, commentator and expert Richard Fitzwilliams has predicted that Spencer, 62, could go into detail about some of the more ‘painful’ aspects of her life. He told me: “This book very clearly will Spencer will reveal is bound to reveal some things we didn't know, some things that, for example, weren't widely publicized.”
This could possibly include information that relates to his relationship with Martin Bashir, the reporter who famously interviewed Princess Diana on Panorama in 1995. In their conversation, the late Princess of Wales famously said; “there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded,” in relation to Queen Camilla (then known as Camilla Parker-Bowles).
However, an independent inquiry found that Bashir, now 63, used forged bank statements and other deceitful methods in order to obtain the interview – which Prince William said should never be shown on British TV again. “Spencer did introduce Martin Bashir, who we know is a complete fraud, to his sister,” Fitzwilliams told me.
“I think that that will haunt him, and it's the sort of thing that would give fuel to fire if he decides to make some revelations that, after all, he is her brother. He has the right to do it. …. I think that that's one of the things in the back of his mind.” He added: “I think he's haunted by aspects of the past which involve him, even though it was certainly not his fault that his sister believed the fraudulent Martin Bashir, it's the everlasting shame of the BBC that Panorama went out as it did.”
Fitzwilliams also pointed out a potential disagreement between brother and sister before her tragic car accident in Paris. In 1993, Earl Spencer famously declined his sister’s request to use Garden Cottage on the Althorp Estate. “[It’s] something that he is extremely sensitive about,” he remarked.
“Diana went to the Mediterranean because he and she could not agree. She was hoping to spend time at Garden Cottage in 1997, that fateful period, there were problems with security, and he offered everything he could, but he could not agree that Garden Cottage was a good idea.” Adding: “So there was a problem there, and we know where it led to.”

The expert also points to the release of new video footage by Channel 4 in 2017, as an example of information that was not in the public domain, hinting that it could have a negative impact on King Charles. “Some of the charges there against the then Prince of Wales and also the late Duke of Edinburgh, these are not helpful. But it's worth remembering,” he stated.
Fitzwilliams added" “Of course, one of the dangers of this book is that it's unlikely to be favourable towards Queen Camilla. It can't be by the nature of it. She is now queen, and the king and queen are now well settled. There's little question about that.”
