The Cousin Who Excitedly Welcomed Prince Harry Back to the UK—and It’s Not the York Sisters
While Princess Eugenie or Princess Beatrice would be the obvious guesses given their close bond with Harry, it isn't either of them this time.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are back in Britain with their kids after spending six years away in California, and their arrival has already sparked an unexpected reaction from someone inside the family circle. While senior royals have not yet reacted to Harry's homecoming, one of his cousins didn't shy away from expressing her excitement. She also hinted at a new bond with Meghan over a shared connection they now have in common.
While many might assume the cousin in question is Princess Eugenie or Princess Beatrice, given their long-standing bond with Harry, that is not the case this time. The York sisters have kept mum about the Sussex's return so far. Instead, the unexpected reaction came from his mother’s side of the family: Lady Eliza Spencer, the 34-year-old daughter of Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer.
Eliza is delighted about having them back and would love to spend some time with the family of four. In a conversation with Mirror, talking about Harry and Markle's return to Britain, she said, “Absolutely, it’s exciting!” She continued, “We would love to be able to find some time to visit.” Her comments come just hours after Harry, Markle, and their children, Archie and Lilibet, arrive in Birmingham on a private jet from California.
Eliza was only five years old when Diana died in a Paris car crash in 1997. Despite that tragedy, the Spencers have remained close with both Harry and Prince William, even hosting the Sussexes last month at Althorp, the Spencer family estate in Northamptonshire. Eliza also shared her plans to bond with Harry and Meghan now that they'll be living much closer to one another.
She has entered the wine business and has recently launched Lala V, a £27 Côtes de Provence rosé inspired by her love of travel, food, family, and long lunches. When asked whether she might swap wine-making tips with Markle, who also sells rosé through her As Ever lifestyle brand, Lady Eliza simply teased, “Maybe!”
She is also preparing for a major milestone in her personal life, having recently gotten engaged to tech executive Channing Millerd. The couple is soon deemed to tie the knot. Addressing whether William, Kate, and other royals will be on the guest list, she noted, "We're still in the infancy of the planning of it, so we have no idea what it's going to look like at the moment." However, she hinted that all family members will be invited, and who knows, this might just be the occasion that brings the brothers back together.
