Royal Expert Explains How Princess Kate Avoided Princess Diana’s Royal Tragedy

Ingrid Seward believes that Princess Kate learned a lot from Princess Diana and her royal life.

It’s a well-known fact that Princess Diana loved her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, more than anything in the world. She was reportedly excited to watch them grow up, start their own families, and lead their own lives. Unfortunately, she never got the chance to meet her two daughters-in-law, Princess Kate and Meghan Markle. However, according to Majesty magazine’s editor-in-chief, Ingrid Seward, Diana faced a major disadvantage in her royal role that the current Princess of Wales does not, giving Kate a distinct advantage in her royal career.

In fact, Seward, who recently spoke to HELLO! for a live episode of its A Right Royal Podcast, explained that while there are many minor differences between Diana and Middleton, the key difference comes down to support. The celebrated royal biographer and the author of Catherine and Diana further explained, “It's one of the tragedies of Diana's story that she was adored by millions, yet emotionally denied by the few who mattered most. And that is where the contrast with Catherine is genuinely most striking.”

Meanwhile, according to a report by Marie Claire, Seward emphasized that Middleton’s life hasn’t been without its challenges, noting her recent cancer diagnosis and the transition of her eldest son, Prince George, starting boarding school. Nevertheless, her family and friends are firmly by her side to support her. This presents a stark contrast to Diana's experience. Elaborating on this, Seward noted, “Her life is not perfect, but it is rooted in a shared understanding with William, her husband, and Diana's son. They face the institution together. Diana faced it alone.”

Furthermore, she believes that the Princess of Wales was supported by a very tight-knit family from the beginning, including her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, and her siblings, Pippa and James. Seward explained, “She had something that Diana didn't have: an incredibly close-knit family and a very ambitious mother.” Lastly, she noted that Middleton clearly drew lessons from Diana's experience. “She saw that Diana gave so much of herself to people, but it exposed her too much. Catherine learned from that: just give enough, but don't give too much, because you're too vulnerable that way, and people are going to strip you bare if you do that.”
