Princess Kate Joins William for a Cause Close to His Heart During Surprise Belfast Visit
Kate has stood alongside William for many royal engagements, but their latest outing in Belfast highlighted a cause deeply personal to him.
Prince William stepped out today for a cause close to his heart, joined by Princess Kate for the engagement. The visit marked the couple’s seventh joint trip to Belfast, Northern Ireland. In accordance with Northern Ireland security protocol, the details of royal visits are kept strictly under wraps until after the royals arrive.
During their Belfast outing, William and Kate learned more about efforts to help young people at risk of homelessness in building independent lives. The visit highlighted a pilot project under William’s Homewards campaign, an initiative aimed to tackle homelessness across the UK by bringing different local organizations together.
The couple began their visit at The Commons, a former church on Ormeau Road that has been transformed into a community hub. There, they met employers, support workers, and young people involved in the New Employment Opportunities Network (NEON), a program designed to help those at risk of homelessness access employment and build stronger support systems.
The Belfast pilot’s progress has encouraged four other Homewards locations to adopt the same approach, while major UK companies have also pledged their support. The project highlights how employers, public services, and community groups can work together to make a lasting difference. It is part of William’s five-year Homewards program, which aims to show that homelessness can be made rare, brief, and unrepeated.
William marked the third anniversary of his Homewards campaign on June 30, 2026, with engagements in London and Aberdeen. During a speech at the event, he described homelessness as a “systemic failure,” emphasizing that it should not be seen as an individual’s fault. “These aren’t just statistics; they are people who have a home, a job, and a future that are very different to only a few years ago. Crucially, people are being supported earlier, in schools, in the workplace, in their communities, so homelessness never becomes part of their story,” he said.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have carried out several joint engagements in recent weeks. On September 22, they attended the charity premiere of Digger, starring Tom Cruise, in London. A week later, on September 29, they visited AMT Headingley Stadium, home of the Leeds Rhinos rugby team, to learn how the club and its foundation are using sport to make a positive impact in their community.
