Princess Anne Complains About Mystery Smell at Garden Party — Then Jokes It Was King Charles [Watch]
Princess Anne left guests in stitches after jokingly pinning an unpleasant smell on King Charles during Holyrood Week.
Princess Anne and King Charles may be senior royals attending grand events, but at heart they are still siblings who love teasing each other. While attending an event during Holyrood Week, Anne noticed an unpleasant smell and tried to figure out where it was coming from. In the end, she jokingly pinned the blame on her brother, Charles.
Anne was joined by Charles, Queen Camilla, and Prince Edward at the Garden Party in the gardens of the Palace of Holyroodhouse on June 30. The event wrapped up this year's royal garden party season while also kicking off Holyrood Week in Scotland. While chatting with guests alongside Edward, the Princess Royal appeared to catch a whiff of an unpleasant smell and playfully asked one of the guards if he was responsible.
However, Nicola Hickling, who is an expert analyst and lip reader, claimed (via Express UK) that the guard had a cheeky response, saying that the smell had come from an oblivious Charles. “I think it was Charles,” he joked. Anne then joined in on the joke, saying, "We need to move... perhaps it was Charles." Her hilarious response had everyone around her laughing. Watch the video here!
It just goes on to show the close sibling bond that Charles and Anne share. During a behind-the-scenes video from the King's 2023 coronation, Anne even revealed an amusing nickname she has for him. In the clip from the documentary Charles III: The Coronation Year, Anne walks into the Centre Room and greets her brother by saying, "Hello, Old Bean." Charles immediately bursts into laughter and greets his sister.
But was not the only time Anne has had everyone laughing, either. Back in 2012, she found herself in another awkward situation after a moderator accidentally introduced her as "Her Royal Highness The Prince of Wales" during a debate about young people and farming. Rather than correct the mistake, she brushed it off with a hilarious story about Charles. The Princess recalled one of her brother's visits to a care home in Scotland, where he was wearing a kilt. She said he later overheard an elderly woman ask, "Is that the Princess Royal?" before joking, "He thought it was quite funny and I'm not even wearing trousers today, but there you go."
Despite all the banter, Charles and Anne have only grown closer over the years. Anne has become one of her brother's most trusted allies, and last year she took on a bigger role as one of the King's Counsellors of State alongside Prince Edward. It's another sign of the trust Charles has placed in his younger sister.
