Prince William Signs Off Under His Real Name for Secret $6.6K Veteran Charity Donation
Prince William contributed to Rock2Recovery under a special name with a heartwarming message.
Prince William has been proactively building his own legacy long before he becomes the future King. From championing mental health awareness and suicide prevention to helping communities prepare for natural disasters, the Prince of Wales continues to find impactful new ways to serve the public. Now, offering another glimpse into his personal philanthropic priorities, the Prince is set to support a charity dedicated to aiding veterans and emergency service personnel severely affected by PTSD.
In keeping with his commitment, William recently donated £5,000 ($6,600) via the SportsGiving website to Dave ‘Dinger’ Bell from Bere Regis in Dorset, and he did that under a special name. Bell, for his part, undertook a solo, unsupported row across the Pacific and Indian Oceans, spending 327 days at sea. According to a report by HELLO!, he completed the grueling feat to raise funds and awareness for Rock2Recovery, a charity supporting veterans and emergency service personnel dealing with PTSD.
Along with the donation, the Prince also left a personal message for Bell using the name ‘William Wales,’ a nod to his Prince of Wales title. His message read, “An extraordinary achievement. Huge congratulations to Dinger for completing this incredible challenge in support of a brilliant cause. Well done! W.” Bell later took to social media, posting a video to thank everyone for their support and giving a special mention to the royal contribution: “Day 4 on dry land. Want to take the chance to thank @princeandprincessofwales for sharing my journey last week and donating yesterday. What an honour from you.”
He added, “It wouldn't be possible for this to happen if all of the people supporting it didn't make so much positive noise for this challenge. If you haven't already donated, please do. Thank you so much.” In the video, Bell began by saying, “Thank you for all the donations. I'm recovering well,” before going on to thank the Prince of Wales directly for his personal support, “I have a very, very special thank you to make to His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, for a donation he made yesterday to Rock2Recovery. Thank you very much.” To wrap up his post, Bell also shared a screenshot highlighting William’s contribution and message.
