In the wake of King Charles' "successful" prostate operation, His Majesty's advanced age of 75 has some commentators calling for his abdication from the throne in favor of his heir, Prince William.

"I think that King Charles should abdicate, and I think that Prince William should step up and do the job, purely because I would love to see the reaction of Harry and Meghan," journalist Peter Lloyd told GB News' Mark Dolan.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are currently in a long-running feud with Prince William.

"Imagine how delicious that would be to see them foaming at the mouth over William becoming King?" he added.

Fellow journalist Nina Myskow snapped back at Lloyd: "Why would they foam at the mouth? You're being completely ridiculous!"

This led Dolan to interject: "Well, they'd be wild and jealous, Nina. Catherine would be Queen!"

Based on the traditions of the British monarchy, and how intertwined life service of the monarch is worded in Parliament, it is highly unlikely King Charles III will abdicate like Denmark's Queen Margrethe. This means he will die in his role, just as Queen Elizabeth II did, and only then will William become the monarch and Catherine his Queen Consort.

Prince William has been dubbed 'His Royal Laziness" when compared to royals like King Charles and Princess Anne.

"So what? The King has waited this long to fulfill his role. He is not going to go easily," Myskow observed during the panel discussion. "I mean, over his dead body, literally, he is not going to give up. And in terms of the engagements that he's carried out, he carries out about three or four times the engagements that William does."

She then laid into the "sycophancy" built around the Prince of Wales by dishing: "William is a bit of a shirker, I've always thought — an entitled shirker. He's supposed to be, you know, taking the helm because Catherine's in hospital and then he's canceled all his engagements too. Honestly, that seems ridiculous to me. He should be doing his share."

The Prince and Princess of Wales have regularly come under fire at the end of each year when the annual royal duty roster is calculated. For 2023, the pair were dubbed by some "Their Royal Laziness" as William ended the year with 172 completed duties to Catherine's 123. This fell far below the top two hardest-working royals, Princess Anne and the King, who had 457 and 425 completed engagements, respectively.

The Prince and Princess of Wales 'are determined' to actively raise their children before bending to royal duties.

One commentator says there is a good reason why their tally is so low.

"This is where you very much see that William is Diana's son. Recently, there has almost been a perception that he is Charles' son and Harry is Diana's son. But you know Diana was immensely close with William. You can hear it when Prince William speaks about how there's so much love and admiration for his mother," royal expert Gareth Russell told a publication last December.
