Prince Harry Reconsidering Bringing Meghan and Kids to the UK Just Hours After Confirming Visit
Prince Harry's long-awaited plans to reunite his children with his father, King Charles, may have hit an unexpected hurdle.
Prince Harry's long-awaited plans to reunite his children with his father, King Charles, may have hit an unexpected hurdle. Just hours after the official announcement stating that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would travel to the UK with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet next month, fresh reports indicate a change in plans. So why the apparent U-turn? Well, it comes down to Harry's biggest battle with the British government —security concerns!
Less than 24 hours after the announcement, the Duke is said to have had a change of heart, not because of any family dispute, but due to concerns over his family's safety after his petition for taxpayer-funded security was denied. Speaking to the Daily Mail about why the security situation is concerning, an insider explained, "The precarious security situation and endless speculation about where the family will stay are making the planning and logistics for the private security team increasingly difficult." The source continued, "There have been three separate incidents in the UK in less than 12 months that we know of, each involving a fixated person getting to within feet of the Duke. In some circumstances, because of the limitations on what private security has the authority to do, they weren't able to remove the person."
The insider added that the King is looking forward to meeting his grandkids for the first time in years and will be deeply dismayed if things go south, yet again. But it is not just Charles. Even Harry is said to be 'desperate' for his kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to meet their grandfather. However, security is too grave an issue for him to ignore.
"Harry is a big guy, a former soldier, and generally pretty robust when it comes to handling these incidents," shared the insider. They added, "It's what impact such moments would have on the kids that everyone is most concerned about." Reportedly, Harry at the moment is considering every possible way to bring his kids to his motherland and is even thinking of flying his wife and kids in and out of Britain in just one day.
The Duke lost his state-funded security privileges in 2020 after stepping down from his royal duties. While he continues to travel with a private security team, it is reportedly not considered sufficient for a high-profile visit to the UK. Although his children were not expected to attend any public events, Meghan Markle was due to accompany him, and Harry had also planned to take Archie and Lilibet to visit the grave of his mother, Princess Diana. Now, however, those plans are being reconsidered. "On Friday night, the Sussex office issued an op [operational] note saying that the full family would be coming to the UK and they had accepted royal accommodation. The next day, they pull out," revealed the source.
