Prince Harry May Be Making a Royal Comeback — and It Has Meghan Markle’s Fingerprints All Over It
As major deals fade, questions grow louder — is Meghan Markle now the force behind Harry’s sudden push back toward the Royal Family?
It has been over five years since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped away from their royal duties and settled in California. However, with the recent buzz about the couple leaning into the idea of going back to the UK, it has certainly raised eyebrows. According to royal expert Alicia Liberty for The Express, the timing is especially suspicious as Markle’s ‘post-royal bubble has burst’ and she is ‘looking for a way back’ after everything has failed.
Back in 2020, Harry and Markle’s exit was not just controversial; it was a full-blown rupture. They stepped down as senior royals, left the UK, and walked away from centuries-old expectations. Dubbed as 'Megxit,' it set off years of public scrutiny, media battles, and strained family relations. Which is why Liberty does not find the recent speculations of their return coincidental and is happening after ‘a run of very public flops.” She wrote, “There’s one thing Meghan understands, it’s relevance, and she is losing her grip.”
She also points out the massive deals Markle was involved in following the exit, as she ‘spent years trying to carve out a new identity’ but failed. Their partnership with Spotify ended in 2023 after producing only one major project, Meghan’s Archetypes podcast, with both sides reportedly unable to meet expectations. Spotify executive Bill Simmons said on his podcast, “I wish I had been involved in the ‘Meghan and Harry leave Spotify’ negotiation. ‘The F------ Grifters.’ That’s the podcast we should have launched with them.”
Around the same time, their deal with Netflix delivered a major hit with the Harry & Meghan docuseries. They signed a five-year deal with the streaming giant, reportedly worth around $100 million. However, the couple was not able to produce a single scripted hit, and according to an insider, “the mood in the building is ‘We’re done.’” When the initial term of the deal came to an end, it was not renewed in the same expansive form but scaled down to a “first-look” deal.
On the other hand, Markle’s lifestyle brand, As Ever, which was also a Netflix-backed venture, failed to meet expectations. In March 2026, Netflix and Meghan formally ended their partnership on the brand after less than a year. Apparently, the streaming platform was left with $10 million in unsold inventory.
The author emphasized that due to the series of failures, Markle wants back in the royal family. “Strip it all back, and one thing remains consistent: her title. Because without it, would anyone still be watching quite so closely?” Liberty wrote. She also pointed out that the Duchess can certainly return to acting, but there is no guarantee that the venture will succeed and will land the same way as others.
According to Liberty, reports that Harry is hoping for an invitation from King Charles III for Easter with Meghan and their children do not read as purely sentimental. She points out that this urgency was notably absent at more critical moments, including when Charles was diagnosed with cancer and when Kate underwent preventative chemotherapy. Now, with media momentum cooling and the spotlight not quite as intense, the renewed talk of a royal return feels, in her view, more about timing than coincidence.
