Prince Harry Faces Difficult Conversations With King Charles Following Surprise UK Return

Harry may be back in Britain, but his return could bring an unexpected challenge involving King Charles that he may not be able to avoid.

Prince Harry has returned home to the UK six years after moving to the US, alongside Meghan Markle and their two children. However, reports indicate that it was not just the public; King Charles was also blindsided by the decision. Now, Harry might have no choice but to have an uncomfortable yet inevitable conversation with his father.

The family of four is adjusting to life back in Britain, with Archie and Lilibet getting ready to start their new school year in the country. But while the Sussexes settle into their new surroundings, questions are already being raised about what this could mean for Harry and Charles.

Harry and Markle’s return to Britain appears to have caught Charles by surprise, as the family reportedly revealed the move ten days before arriving in the country. Even more surprisingly, the King had already seen the Sussexes at Highgrove in July, when Harry, Markle, Archie, and Lilibet met with Charles and Camilla, but their plans to move back were reportedly never mentioned at the time.

A source close to the royals told Mirror, “The King and the entire Royal Family have undoubtedly been blindsided by the announcement from Harry and Meghan that they are returning to the UK.” They continued, “While the King will be delighted at the prospect of seeing his grandchildren on a more regular basis, there will be concerns over the true motivation for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's decision to leave the United States after everything that has occurred since they decided to leave their royal roles.”

According to the outlet's Russell Myers and Jennifer Newton, Harry may now have to sit down with his father and explain why he chose not to tell Charles about the move when they met just a month before the Sussexes returned to the UK. Russel said, “Once everything is all sorted, surely they’re going to have to see the King, whether it’s in London or at Highgrove, and explain the full reasons of what they’re doing back in the UK.”

While Russell believes the couple should reach out to Charles and explain the decision, Newton pointed out that it may not be that simple. After all, the King was reportedly kept in the dark about their plans to return to Britain. “And you have to remember, there’s only been two meetings between Harry and the King in two years, so it’s probably going to take some baby steps,” she said.
