Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Pal Reveals Why They Hate Being Called ‘Former Royals’
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are firm about where they stand when it comes to the royal family. But the Palace's verdict has also been crystal clear. As far as the monarchy is concerned, Harry and Markle are private citizens in the UK and are not associated with the Firm.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s position within the royal family can be considered debatable. They are estranged from their relatives and are no longer working royals. However, it is this 'lazy' term that the Sussexes do not like because they are firm about where they stand with the monarchy despite outside noise.

A friend of the couple recently revealed that Harry and Markle hated one phrase. "'Working members of the royal family' is a really lazy phrase. He hates it, she hates it,” they said via Hello! The pair dislike the term due to their own professional and personal standing.
"They are not 'working' for the institution, but they are members of the royal family, and they work. Their days are built around their family life and their work. She's running a business seven days a week,” the source added.
Harry had also previously expressed that “he will always be a part of the royal family” and had listed being Prince of England and a duke as among his occupations during his appearance on Joe Marler’s podcast this year.

Additionally, 'working royals’ is not the only term Harry and Markle have an issue with. The couple reportedly also dislike being called 'former royals.' They may have stepped away from the royal family, but they have continued their charitable and commercial endeavors independently over the past several years. Last week, they made their first joint appearance in Nottingham since returning to the UK, the city that hosted their first-ever joint royal engagement in 2017.
The pair visited organizations close to their heart, took part in activities, interacted with the large crowds gathered to see them at every stop, and received gifts and flowers from them. The outing was no different than any royal visit. Their friend further said, "Things like Nottingham aren't done in the name of the institution or the Crown, but Harry is the son of the King; he is still a member of the royal family; he's just not a member of the institution. It's misleading to call them 'former royals'. It has an impact on how they're perceived and the way people talk about them."

While the Sussexes may object to certain phrases, the Palace's verdict has been crystal clear. As far as the monarchy is concerned, Harry and Markle are private citizens in the UK and are not associated with the Firm.
