Prince Harry and King Charles' Highgrove Reunion Isn't a 'Real Reconciliation' Yet, Says Expert
Prince Harry's latest royal reunion with King Charles may not mean what many were hoping, according to one expert.
Over the past few months, there have been several claims suggesting that Prince Harry and King Charles could finally be moving toward a much-awaited reconciliation after years of strained relations. These speculations intensified following claims of alleged private peace talks and Charles' growing desire to spend time with his grandchildren. Most recently, Buckingham Palace confirmed that Charles privately met with Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet at Highgrove House. Despite the apparent breakthrough, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams believes a true reconciliation remains a long way off.
The Highgrove meetup, which took place on Friday, July 10, was kept strictly out of the public eye, with no photos released and no official details expected to emerge anytime soon. It's worth noting that it was the first time since 2022 that the King and the Queen had seen Markle and the kids. While the meeting once again ignited reconciliation rumors between the father-son duo, Fitzwilliams argues that the widespread media attention surrounding Harry's UK trip may have made the King particularly cautious.
Speaking to the Daily Express, he said, "Next time, if there is one (family reunion), they should come and go without a media circus. Then real reconciliation might start." The expert added, “One hopes the germ of it has begun already, as the King is 77 and is battling cancer. If so, it will take a long time and no interviews from the Sussexes about the meeting." Fitzwilliams went on to claim that Harry's UK visit this time has been a complete mess, and said, “The visit of the Sussexes was a mess. Meghan’s schedule was torn up, and there were public rows over accommodation and security." “Harry lost his case against Associated Newspapers. Invictus did get a 'one year to go' boost. I strongly doubt that it (a UK trip) will be repeated soon,” he added.
Meanwhile, another royal commentator, Link Lauren, put forth his opinion about the recent royal reunion and argued that the US-based couple could just be looking for some 'content' for their next potential book or a reality show. Talking to the Daily Express, he said, "No photos will be published now, because Meghan and Harry need fodder. Every conversation will be regurgitated and filtered through their lens."
Whether the Highgrove meeting marks the beginning of a lasting reconciliation or proves to be a one-off family reunion remains uncertain. For now, royal watchers can only wait to see if the private gathering leads to meaningful progress between the King and his younger son.
