‘Outsider’ Kate Middleton Understands the Monarchy Better Than Prince William, Claims Royal Expert
As someone who wasn't raised on palace grounds, Kate Middleton can offer Prince William a fresh perspective, free of traditionalist ideas and emotional ties.
The Royal Family has never been immune to public scrutiny, but it was possibly never subjected to the level of criticism that it is now facing, thanks to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s involvement in the Epstein scandal. While King Charles has taken every possible measure to distance his younger brother from the monarchy, the “reputational damage” has been done. And that is seemingly not something that Prince William wants to inherit when he ascends the throne, but thankfully, he has his “tough” wife, Kate Middleton, to lean on through this turbulence.
For the longest time, the monarchy has operated on the belief of ‘that’s how it’s always been done’, and one could argue that very notion has been a catalyst in their recent debacles. However, Middleton holds a different lens. She was not born or raised on palace grounds and had essentially been an outsider when she married William, but that is exactly why she is her husband’s strongest asset. “Kate gets how it all works, and I’m always struck that it is often the outsiders who better understand the institution rather than those who are born to it,” royal author Andrew Lownie told The iPaper.
Lownie even drew comparisons between the Princess of Wales and another iconic royal. “William also has Kate who is a really tough one, and behind that smiling exterior she’s like the steely Queen Mum,” he further added. Coming from the outside world into the dreamy castle, Middleton must have a fresh perspective on things, free from traditionalist ideas and emotional ties.
Lownie believes that William is “cleaner than the others” in the ongoing Andrew-Epstein saga and “wants a clean stable when he moves into the role of King”. The Prince of Wales is also “tougher than his father or any other royal relatives” and reportedly doesn’t let emotions cloud his judgment. It seems he understands the importance of public image and its effect on the monarchy. “Kate helps William see the reputational damage,” Lownie said, “The couple is much better at reading the room”.
William and Middleton have weathered storms together before, most famously when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the royal family in 2020 and moved to the US. The Sussexes have made sensational claims through several tell-all content over the years, and the statements haven’t painted a rosy picture of the Wales. However, William and Middleton have come out of the controversies relatively unscathed.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are looked upon as the pair who will usher the monarchy into a new, modern era. And that is evident through the causes that they have chosen to undertake, be it mental health or early childhood studies; their charities have been relevant to the present times. They would certainly receive immense love and regard when they do become monarchs.
