Meghan Shares Harry's Thanksgiving Staple — Says He’d ‘Never Forgive’ Her for Skipping It
It's no secret that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry love to celebrate the little joys of life with their children. After marking Halloween by carving spooky designs together, the Sussexes are now gearing up for Thanksgiving Day. In that festive spirit, the Duchess of Sussex revealed her must-haves for Thanksgiving at their Montecito abode, also revealing the Duke's favorite ingredient. She joked that her husband 'would never forgive' her if she forgot to add her signature flower sprinkles to the dishes.
Sharing Thanksgiving tips with PEOPLE, Markle revealed her hacks for successfully hosting the holiday. She stressed that before preparing the food, she chops the veggies and herbs in advance to cut time, and has her two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, join in on the fun. "Top tip on the carrots — keep the tops and blend them with parmesan, olive oil, and pine nuts for a refreshing take on pesto to elevate your holiday spread." She continued, "Served with creamy mashed potatoes, a green salad speckled with flower sprinkles and rich gravy (my husband would never forgive me if I didn’t add that to the table), this is sure to please your entire gathering."
Moreover, to set the mood, the As Ever founder recommended using scented candles in the living room and unscented ones in the kitchen to make the guests feel at home. Sharing how she entertained her slew of A-list guests, she added, "Set out a few ice breakers, like puzzles or board games, to spark conversation and help guests connect. Being a great host is all about anticipating your guests' needs — something I learned working in restaurants and now love bringing into my own home."
The Duchess is no stranger to playing hostess for festivals, as seen in the holiday special trailer of her Netflix cooking show, With Love, Meghan. She often has her hands full as hostess and isn't averse to asking for some help from her guests. She believes that having visitors helps lighten the load and creates a sense of shared celebration. She said, "If you have the time to make a family favorite to share, do it!" And as for her husband's favorite ingredient, Markle proved that she and Harry are two peas in a pod when she proclaimed her 'obsession' with flower sprinkles. Earlier, at the TIME 100 Summit, she gushed, "They're tiny little flower petals that are dried...I started putting them on salads…scrambled eggs…a yoghurt parfait."
Last year, Markle revealed that her Thanksgiving celebrations with Harry were 'pretty low-key.' In a conversation with Marie Claire, she spilled how her family of four usually celebrated the festival, saying, "Like any other family, you spend time having a great meal, and then what do you do? Play games, all the same stuff, someone brings a guitar — fun."
