Meghan Markle's Snub Leaves Father Thomas Feeling ‘Deeply Hurt’
According to recent reports, Thomas Markle “must feel extremely let down” by his daughter Meghan’s actions.
Meghan Markle's relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, is not the best; in fact, the father-daughter duo has been estranged for years. While in the recent scenario, there have been several attempts from Thomas to reconnect with his daughter, Meghan has not reciprocated the same emotions. Now, according to recent reports, Thomas “must feel extremely let down” by Meghan’s actions, with even the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip said to have been left puzzled by the situation between Meghan and her father.
Hugo Vickers, in his recently published book, Queen Elizabeth II, has penned in detail several aspects of Thomas and Meghan's relationship and how the latter never introduced Prince Harry to her father. So, why did Markle keep Harry in the dark all along? While Harry and Meghan's wedding had several A-listers like Oprah Winfrey and George Clooney in attendance, the actress's father was missing owing to health issues and a paparazzi scandal. Initially, reports suggested that Thomas would attend the royal wedding and would even walk Meghan down the aisle, but after two heart attacks and an emergency surgery, he was unable to. Later, Meghan even accused him of staging paparazzi photographs for money, leading the duo to get further estranged.
Vickers, in his book, noted it might be a possibility that Meghan was "ashamed" of her father, which is why she never wanted Harry to meet him. Elaborating on more possibilities from Meghan's perspective, he told GB News, "I raise it as a possibility." He further explained, "I think more likely she was nervous that he might say something to Prince Harry." The author clarified that while now Meghan and Thomas are no longer on speaking terms, the actress previously had a cordial bond with her father.
"He was good to her when she was growing up. If you listen to what he says as opposed to how his words are reported, you will find a decent man who must feel extremely let down," added Vickers. He shared, "It was in fact a member of Prince Harry’s family who suggested that she might have been nervous of what he might say." Thomas is, however, still hopeful to reconnect with Meghan and his grandkids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, whom he has never met.
Following his leg amputation in the Philippines in December 2025, Meghan reached out to her father and, as per her spokesperson, shared with GB News, “It has been exceedingly difficult for the Duchess to contact her father privately, despite her efforts over the past several days." They continued, “With the support of reliable and trusted contacts, her correspondence is now safely in his hands.” Other than this, there has been no update about Meghan and Thomas' relationship, but the latter has now shifted to the US to have access to better medical care. "Dad made the decision to come back to the US for ongoing medical care. He will be able to get the best prosthetics here and be surrounded by friends and family to support him," shared his eldest daughter, Samantha Markle.
