Meghan Markle's New Post Has Some People Comparing Her to a Horror Movie Character
Meghan Markle seldom catches a break from online trolls, facing a myriad of criticism irrespective of what she shares. Most recently, she found herself targeted after she posted a photo of herself on her lifestyle brand As Ever's Instagram to promote the Sweetheart Bundle collaboration with Compartés Chocolates. The image showed the Duchess holding red balloons tied around a jar of As Ever jam, obscuring her face. After it went viral, critics unkindly mocked her aesthetic, with some comparing her to Pennywise the clown from IT.
Donning a black strapless floral dress, the Duchess of Sussex promoted her Valentine's Day collection in collaboration with the Los Angeles-based chocolatier. She captioned the post, "A sweet surprise! Shop the Limited Edition Sweetheart Bundle featuring our Signature As Ever x @compartes Chocolate Collection paired with our Raspberry and Strawberry Spreads in Keepsake Packaging, just in time for Valentine's Day."
Days earlier, on January 26, she had posted a black and white image of herself in the same outfit, this time, with her face visible. There, she playfully teased the launch of her collection, which includes strawberry and raspberry-flavored fruit spreads.
After Markle's picture with the balloons went viral on X (formerly Twitter), royal watchers compared her to Pennywise the clown. A critic remarked, "She's the spawn of Pennywise." In a similar vein, another said, "OK. She actually looks like Pennywise without makeup." Meanwhile, a netizen sneered, "Pennywise looks like a nicer person." As the comments poured in, a fan opined, "Not a good look for her."

Unfortunately, this was not the first time Markle was accused of imitating a character in a famous movie. After she posted a black and white photo in the same outfit, royal watchers accused her of copying Audrey Hepburn's iconic look in Breakfast at Tiffany's. The said picture, featuring the Duchess in a hat and sunglasses, was closely reminiscent of Hepburn's signature look in the movie, where she wore a wide-brimmed black hat and oversized black cat-eye sunglasses to shield her eyes. The only thing that was missing was Hepburn's stylish gloves, which epitomized classic Hollywood glamor.
To promote her new line of products, Markle built heavy anticipation on social media. A post on January 29 promoting her new chocolates was captioned, "Sweet favorites return, plus something brand new. Set your reminder — it won't last long. The As Ever x @compartes Valentine's Day collection, coming Saturday." She teased the product, a chocolate bar resting on a tray with a napkin underneath, as a 'love letter in chocolate,' set to arrive online just in time for the big day. The post was also criticized for Markle's apparent lack of hygiene, as one of the napkins seemingly had an oil stain on it. Along with the stain, fans also took issue with the trays in the photo, accusing the Duchess of not adhering to proper cleanliness standards.
