On May 11, Mother's Day, Meghan Markle shared an adorable photo with her two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, on Instagram. It featured them climbing onto her. While the photo was undeniably sweet, what caught the attention of royal fans was a hidden detail— two palm trees. Yes, you read that right. The trees in the background hold a special meaning in Markle and Prince Harry’s relationship.

Markle captioned the post, “Happy Mother’s Day! Cheers to juggling it all with joy! And to these two gems who still attempt to climb 'mama mountain,' smother me with kisses, and make every day the most memorable adventure…being your mom is the greatest privilege of my life. ??” In a 2022 interview with The Cut, Markle revealed that the two palm trees had sealed the deal for her husband, Prince Harry, when deciding on their Montecito mansion. She said, “One of the first things my husband saw when we walked around the house was those two palm trees. See how they’re connected at the bottom? He goes, 'My love, it’s us.” She added, “And now, every day when Archie goes by us, he says, ‘Hi, Momma. Hi, Papa.”

Meanwhile, Markle, much like Harry, once compared her ‘connection’ to Harry to salt and pepper shakers. She recalled a lesson about salt and pepper always being passed together. She said, “[My friend’s mother] said, ‘You never move one without the other.’ That’s me and Harry. We’re like salt and pepper. We always move together.” During her interview with Cut, the Duchess of Sussex also revealed that she did 'everything’ to secure her current Montecito home, as it allegedly made her 'feel free' and was 'calm and healing.' The couple’s plush mansion is estimated to be around $20 million.

Coming back to the Mother’s Day post, it isn't the only time the Duchess of Sussex paid a tribute to her deep love for the Duke. Marie Claire reports that in the promotional photo for her brand, As Ever's website, Markle and Lilibet were seen running barefoot through her backyard, with the two enormous palm trees in the background. The logo for As Ever also features a palm tree with two hummingbirds, which are known to be Harry’s favorite birds. In his memoir, Spare, Harry mentions that after he and Markle returned home following Queen Elizabeth’s death, a hummingbird made its way into their house. He penned, “Then a mate said: Could be a sign, you know? …Visitors, as it were. Aztecs thought [of] them [as] reincarnated warriors. Spanish explorers called them 'resurrection birds.”

Markle’s touching Mother’s Day post came a few days after her appearance on the Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast, where she gushed about the beauty of motherhood. She said, “It's not about the grandeur of a gesture. It's about, 'I see you. I'm nurturing and I see you so deeply and I love being able to see your growth.' I'm just so proud of them.” As per The Mirror, in her own podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, Markle also told guest Reshma Sujani that ‘being a mom’ was her favorite title of all.
