Meghan Markle has found herself in hot water again after an Instagram video showed her relaxing in her limo with her feet up. While the clip was intended to capture her unwinding after her Paris Fashion Week debut, it sparked backlash given the location where it was filmed. Markle was driving by the Pont de l'Alma bridge, the same tunnel in Paris where her mother-in-law, Princess Diana, had tragically lost her life. As the video went viral, royal fans dubbed her ‘insensitive’ over her casual attitude towards an event that was horrifying for Prince Harry.

On October 4, the Duchess of Sussex made a surprise appearance at Paris Fashion Week as the new creative director of Balenciaga. After the event, she filmed herself on her way back from the star-studded afterparty, driving along the banks of the Seine at night. On her Instagram stories, she was seen entering the Pont Alexandre III bridge before her vehicle turned to the Pont de l'Alma tunnel. The late Diana, her partner Dodi Al Fayed, and her driver had passed away at the same bridge on the 31st August 1997, after paparazzi chased their car for photos. Her driver at the time, Henri Paul, was also said to be intoxicated at the time, contributing to the crash.

On X (formerly Twitter), royal watchers slammed Markle for her lapse. A critic remarked, "Why would she film the place where his mother died?  Moreover, why would she post it on social media for the world to see? Why?" In a similar vein, another commented, "This is beyond disturbing. She had nothing whatsoever to do with Princess Diana, so why is she doing it?" Meanwhile, a netizen opined, "Instead of avoiding those places that the late Princess went to, she went and recreated them, how evil." As the comments poured in, a royal fan stressed, "She disrespected our late Queen and now our very much loved Díana."

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams also blasted Markle’s video, labelling it 'insensitive beyond belief'. He told the Daily Mail, "She [Markle] couldn't possibly have intended to be disrespectful, but it's another example of the Sussexes doing something that makes no sense at all." He continued, "Diana's death is a tragedy that has scarred so much of Harry's life, and I can't imagine he would find this very appropriate. While he's always supportive in public, I suspect he'll be absolutely horrified, and she could hear plenty from him about it."

The Paris video isn't the only time when royal watchers have slammed the Duchess for disrespecting Diana’s legacy. On July 1, she faced backlash for releasing her Napa Valley Rosé wine on Diana’s 64th birthday. Commenting on her ill-timed launch, royal expert Kinsey Schofield told The Sun, "As Meghan is doing victory laps around the kitchen, excited for this launch, Harry is still thinking about the mother he lost... the mother that he talks to us about constantly."
