An insider has revealed why Kim’s straightforward explanation didn’t sit well with Meghan.
When photographs of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry quietly vanished from the social media feeds of Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner, it was bound to make headlines. Contrasting narratives came to the forefront, but recently, Kim addressed the elephant in the room, clarifying what had actually led to the deletion of the images, which allegedly sent Markle into a panic.
According to Rob Shuter, who took to his Substack, Markle was thrown into a tailspin after Kim publicly explained why images of the Sussexes were removed from the birthday posts. What followed, sources say, was a frantic call to the Kardashian matriarch herself. Sources told Shuter that Markle made a “full-blown panic call” to Jenner shortly after Kim addressed the situation openly and without embellishment. It was allegedly not the removal of pictures that rattled Markle but Kim’s refusal to dress it up.
“Meghan panicked the moment she realized Kim wasn’t spinning the story,” one insider tells me. “Kim made it sound simple, casual, and optics-based — and Meghan hated that,” Shuter wrote.
The explanation from Kim came during Khloé Kardashian’s podcast, Khloé in Wonder Land. The reality star confirmed that permission had been given to post the photos of the couple at mom Jenner’s birthday celebration. “We were told that it was totally cool to post,” she explained. But once the timing was considered — specifically, the overlap with Remembrance Day — what followed was the decision to take it down. “And then after it was posted, I think they realized it was Remembrance Day, and they didn’t want to be seen at a party, even though it’s already up, you know, and then taken down. And then I think they realized, like, ‘Oh, this was so silly.’”
“It was really innocent, which is so crazy,” Kim added, explaining that Jenner and Markle "have been friends for some years now, and they have a really sweet relationship.”
“Kim’s version made it sound like Meghan hadn’t fully thought it through,” a source explains. “And that is Meghan’s nightmare.” The Duchess’s camp came to her rescue, stating that the issue wasn’t factual accuracy but narrative framing. Markle, they claim, prides herself on meticulous message management. Kim’s explanation, however, stripped the moment of gravitas, reducing it to a practical call made after the fact. According to sources, Markle reached out to Jenner almost immediately to express frustration that Kim’s version failed to safeguard her carefully curated image, as per Shuter. “Meghan wanted it framed as sensitive and complex,” another source says. “Kim framed it as, ‘Oops, no big deal.’ That disconnect triggered the panic.”
Kim, on the podcast, revealed she even suggested the situation could have been softened with humor — a tongue-in-cheek acknowledgement of a post-and-delete moment that celebrities experience all the time. But it seems Markle wanted otherwise. “Kim leaned into honesty and humor,” one insider notes. “Meghan wanted control.” Reportedly, Markle does not do honesty, and hence, “The damage wasn’t in the deletion,” a source adds. “It was in the transparency. Once the truth is out there, you can’t repackage it.”
