Meghan Markle Gives a Rare Sneak Peek Into Her Anniversary Celebrations With Harry and Kids
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex celebrated their 8th wedding anniversary in a heartfelt way on Tuesday, May 19th, 2026.
Ever since they stepped back from royal duties and permanently moved to the US, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have largely kept Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet out of the public spotlight. They only share glimpses of their family life on special occasions. Rare photos and videos of their children have appeared on social media only during birthdays, holidays, or meaningful family celebrations, and their wedding anniversary appears to be one such exception. The Duchess of Sussex took to her Instagram account to share heartfelt videos from her wedding anniversary celebrations with Harry and their children.
To mark the special occasion, Markle posted several photos and videos to her Instagram Stories, but one particularly heartwarming moment captured everyone's attention. In the video, Harry was seen smiling as he held a lemon elderflower cake and playfully sang an anniversary tune. What made the clip even more adorable was that the sweet voices of Archie and Lilibet could be heard in the background, joining in to celebrate their parents’ special day. The following clip captured the couple sharing a warm kiss and the children eagerly asking their parents to blow out the cake candles.
Moving ahead, Markle shared another sentimental video in which she revealed a gift she received from her husband, which was a statue of two penguins hugging each other, seemingly making a sweet comparison to her bond with Harry. She then followed it up with a throwback image of the couple dressed in matching penguin costumes at their engagement party, adding a lighthearted touch to the anniversary posts. As reported by the Daily Mail, the gift also included a card that read, “When momma and poppa got engaged, we had a party with all of our friends, and we said everyone had to wear an animal onesie and we were penguins.” Reacting to the surprise, Markle said, “We were penguins because we are together for life.”
Earlier today, the Duchess delighted her fans and followers with a set of never-before-seen photographs from their 2018 wedding day. The first post offered a rare look at the newlywed couple’s private evening reception at Frogmore House, capturing intimate moments from their first dance as husband and wife, and affectionate photos of the couple sharing kisses. The second post featured another set of photographs from their grand wedding ceremony at St George’s Chapel, a globally watched event that drew an audience of about 1.9 billion people.
However, given the ongoing rift with the royal family, the posts did not feature any senior royal, with just one image showing King Charles from behind as he walked Markle down the aisle. Instead, the spotlight shifted to Sir Elton John, who performed during the wedding celebrations, and Isabel May, who is Markle’s longtime friend and trusted PR adviser. Meanwhile, the 2018 wedding was also filled with several widely discussed controversies, including reports of tensions between Markle and Kate Middleton over Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress.
