Meghan Markle has faced relentless scrutiny and criticism since she and Prince Harry stepped down from their royal roles. Although the Duke of Sussex has openly spoken out against the royal family, leveling accusations of racism and 'unconscious bias,' Markle is often singled out. Reflecting on the same, a royal expert has defended Markle against the blame she gets for ‘stealing’ the Prince, despite Harry allegedly having ‘willingly’ left his family.

Royal expert and author of Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan, Christopher Anderson, recently told InTouch Weekly that Markle is mostly blamed for persuading Harry to move to the U.S. and cutting ties with his family. The author said, “Many people view Meghan as spoiled, smug and self-satisfied... They have cast her as the villain in the piece — the woman who stole Prince Charming away from his family and his country." However, he noted, “Harry made that decision willingly, and that is equally galling to a lot of people.” Following their shift to California, the expert alleges that the Sussexes “cast themselves as victims despite the millions they’ve made and their lavish, celebrity-filled lifestyle,” which many find ‘incredibly annoying.'

The expert believes the couple has stood defiant despite numerous obstacles, only emerging stronger. They have endured despite failed business deals and losing legal battles, growing “stronger as an ‘us against the world’ team.” Anderson suggested, “I think that despite everything that has happened and continues to happen, they remain in love.”

It isn't just royal fans; Markle has reportedly earned the wrath of a prominent royal family member, too. Anderson, in his book, has alleged that after learning about the Sussexes’ decision, Prince Philip went straight to his wife, Queen Elizabeth, ‘spitting blood’ about Markle’s influence on Harry. According to the Mirror, he said, “It appears as if we were wrong about her all along.” A fuming Prince Philip is believed to have said, “This shows a complete lack of respect.” In agreement, then-Prince Charles also blamed Markle for her and Harry’s move to the US despite initially liking her.

Markle is aware of the heat she gets from the royal family and the public, and has addressed it on various occasions. In their Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan, she recounted how one of Harry's friends claimed he had changed after his marriage. In response, she said, “Most people need to find someone to blame to try to, like, reconcile how you are feeling because something has changed and it doesn't feel good and you don't like it.” Reflecting on their last week in London, she said, “But you blame me...because also if you can blame me, then you have no fault. So that last week, it was bittersweet.”
