King Charles Reveals His Way of Drinking Beer During Latest Trip: 'It’s The Same Old Story'
King Charles tried his hand at pulling a pint of the ‘Proper Job 0.5%’ ale.
King Charles and Queen Camilla appeared to have a fun time during their recent visit to St Austell on March 24, 2026. While there, they held conversations with several visitors and local community groups. The couple even shared a few candid moments, such as slicing a cake to mark the Eden Project's 25th anniversary and pulling a pint of beer from St Austell Brewery. During one such relaxed moment, Charles even offered a rare glimpse into his personal preferences, sharing how he enjoys his beer.
During a visit to the Market House in the St Austell town center, Charles tried his hand at pulling a pint of the ‘Proper Job 0.5%’ ale, which is the alcohol-free version of the popular Cornish brew. He held up the glass and asked, “Is this one of your new ones?” before taking a sip and stating, “It’s the same old story. Very good.” Meanwhile, Georgina Young, the brewing director at St Austell’s Brewery, shared details of her conversation with the King and emphasized that Charles showed a genuine understanding of beer, as reported by Cornwall Live. She even revealed that the King prefers to drink his beer from a bottle.
Previously, in a similar lighthearted moment, the King showcased his skills by perfectly pouring a pint of Guinness during a Christmas 2025 visit to a newly opened Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Covent Garden, London. This came up after Charles got a quick lesson on the proper technique, where he was guided to tilt the glass at a 45-degree angle before letting the drink settle for about a minute, allowing the bubbles to rise, as reported by the BBC. After this visit, it was also revealed that the King had a liking for some of the unusual brews, including the one infused with an apricot flavor.
Meanwhile, during their recent visit to St Austell, Camilla received a warm welcome from massive, cheering crowds when she arrived at Holy Trinity Church. She also met the staff and volunteers from St Austell Library and enjoyed a beautiful performance by students from Mount Charles Primary School. On the other hand, Charles met with local Cornish community groups, representatives from Young People Cornwall, and other members of various faith groups during the visit.
The royal couple also officially launched The Big Lunch and The Big Help Out, which is a nationwide community celebration set to take place from June 5 to 8 this year. They even extended their heartfelt congratulations to the team behind the widely known ecological project called the ‘Eden Project,’ which is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Recalling his past visits, Charles said, “I remember when I first came here, there was nothing - amazing how it's developed and grown.” Later on, Sir Tim Smit, co-founder of the Eden Project, said, "The world has changed since we built Eden. Everybody now knows about climate change. Everybody knows about the impact of all the bad things on the world.”
