King Charles Has the Most Wholesome Reaction After Woman Calls Him ‘Darling’ During Official Visit
King Charles had an unexpected response after a woman broke royal protocol and called him "darling" during a visit to Grimsby.
King Charles has time and again shown off his charm during royal engagements and won over hearts. On Thursday, during his visit to Grimsby and Cleethorpes, a woman unexpectedly broke a royal protocol and addressed the King with an endearing term. However, he quickly turned the awkward moment into a heartwarming exchange.
Undeterred by the rainy weather, crowds armed with umbrellas and Union Jacks gathered to welcome the King. During a stop at Blundell Park—home of Grimsby Town Football Club—Charles was presented with a personalized team jersey featuring "HM King Charles" and the number three on the back. The special gift was handed over by the club’s mascot, the Mighty Mariner, who also shared a warm handshake with the monarch.
However, the incident took place when Francine Orr, the football club's ticket office manager, addressed the King rather casually. She had been carefully briefed on royal protocol before meeting Charles, including how to address him and when to bow or curtsey. But those instructions quickly went out the window when the King walked over.
She said, as per GB News, “I've had it in my brain all morning, then he comes up to me, and he shakes my hand, and I said, 'All right darling, oh no, I'm so sorry, Your Majesty.” Instead of correcting her, Charles laughed and replied, “Oh no, that's fine. I like being called darling.” The exchange clearly left an impression on Orr, who later described the King as "so down to earth" and a "lovely, lovely man." She also said she was thrilled that Charles had chosen to visit the club.
The enthusiasm spread well beyond the stadium, with nearby neighbors watching from upstairs windows and supporters gathering outside with flags and banners. Alongside greeting the crowds, the King spoke with representatives from the Our Future collective, an organization dedicated to citizen-led community change. Reflecting on the meeting, Navigo mental health chief executive Simon Beeton praised Charles' expertise, noting that the monarch was "clearly very well connected."
The King even promised to connect organizers working on a project to plant 10,000 trees across Grimsby with his head forester. Beeton said, “The guys who were looking at 10,000 new trees for Grimsby, for example, he's going to put them in contact with his head gardener. It's like, wow, he wasn't passively listening, he very actively listens.”
Young people also gave Charles a tour of the center, showing him the climbing wall, sports hall, and training kitchen. In the sports hall, the King joked, "I'm sorry we can't stop and play some badminton.” Following this, the next major event the King will be appearing at is Trooping the Colour on June 13. On the same day, the funeral of Lady Pamela Hicks will also take place, making it a hectic day for Charles.
