King Charles' Goddaughter Reveals How He is In Real Life And We Aren't Even Surprised
People who are close to King Charles have actually witnessed his softer and more caring side.
King Charles has been a controversial figure admired by many and criticized by a lot as well. Few people have actually witnessed his softer, more compassionate side. Many of those who have been lucky enough to interact with him describe him as a man who is capable of warmth, empathy, and genuine care. For instance, model and philanthropist India Hicks, who is the granddaughter of Lord Mountbatten and the goddaughter of Charles, recently shared one of her sweetest memories of the King, offering a rare glimpse into his considerate nature.
The 58-year-old socialite, and a mother of five, made an appearance on the podcast titled Rosebud and praised the King, stating, “He is also an exceptional godfather and very considerate, very involved, I have boxes of letters that he would have written. He never forgot a birthday or Christmas, and I imagine he has quite a herd of godchildren, so he is very, very considerate, and I think you can see that as the King.” As reported by The Mirror, the host, Gyles Brandreth, then asked her about her sweetest memory of Charles as a godfather.
Responding to this, she recalled that every year, a simple cardboard box would arrive for her, sent by Charles, and inside that she’d find a small, thoughtful item, something like a saucer, a gravy dish, or a cup. As a child, India admitted it felt very confusing to unwrap something like a gravy dish at Christmas. But over the years, those small gifts came together, and by the time she reached her late twenties or thirties, having a complete set felt both extraordinary and very practical. She said it proved to be far more useful than any plastic toy, and, to her, it quietly reflected Charles's thoughtful and considerate nature.
India said, “I’ve always thought, again, the idea of thinking forward, something that would mean something later in life. And I am a godparent to many godchildren, and I take it as a great privilege as well, and I often think, can I live up to that brilliant thinking ahead of what someone would like later in life?” She previously shared that, even now, she is often asked about her first meeting with Princess Diana, what she was like and how it felt to be her bridesmaid. However, she admitted, she can’t recall those details. What has stayed with her is the moment when she was asked to be a bridesmaid by her godfather.
As reported by the Town and Country Magazine, India said, "I was on holiday in the Bahamas when a call came through from the Prince of Wales, my godfather. Charles was, and still is, a remarkable godfather, caring, considerate, and involved. I adored him then and still do now." She also revealed that both the popular couples, including Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, as well as Charles and Diana, started their married lives by spending their first night of honeymoon at her grandfather’s home, Broadlands in Hampshire.
