Kate Middleton Witnesses Cancer Patient Signal End of Her Treatment — and Her Reaction Was Priceless
The Princess of Wales recently undertook an emotional visit and also partook in a joyous tradition.
After a powerful appearance at the Cancer Research UK reception earlier this week, Kate Middleton undertook yet another emotionally-charged outing, this time all alone. On Thursday, she visited The Christie, a specialist cancer center in Manchester, where she met with the staff and patients. The royal, who herself is currently in remission from cancer, even took part in a special, joyous tradition practiced at the center.
Patients at the center ‘ring a bell’ to signal the end of their treatment, and the Princess of Wales was present during one such moment. She happily clapped her hands as the patient rang the bell, offering her support during such an emotional moment. The beloved royal even gave her a tight hug. She further learned how the patient had engaged with complementary therapies, and they helped her in her battle against cancer.
Seeing these complementary therapy options by herself, the princess visited the art therapy room at the center during a session, which was attended by patients who were currently undergoing treatment as well as those who were now recovering. Middleton then proceeded to the well-being garden, where she met with resident gardener Phil Walker.
The Princess of Wales capped her emotional visit with a visit to the Teenage and Young Adult Ward. The unit designed for younger patients was replete with amenities such as a music studio, a gym, and a social hub. In her signature move, Middleton even crouched down to talk to a young patient in a wheelchair, who seemed to adore the princess as she proudly showed off her multi-colored nail paint to the royal.
In Manchester, a bee is an important modern emblem. Since the Industrial Revolution, it has reportedly signified ‘tireless work ethic’, and since the 2017 Manchester Arena bombings, the motif has taken on an entirely new meaning. A bee has now also become the symbol of remembrance, peace, and mutual support. As a nod to that spirit, Middleton, the master of sartorial tributes, opted to wear Vanleles Diamond honeycomb bee hoop earrings for the occasion. Every meaning that the bee symbolizes can certainly be applied to one’s battle against cancer as well. And who would know better than the princess herself?
For the special visit, Middleton recycled a beautiful blue coatdress to go with the statement bee earrings. She paired the look with her iconic sapphire engagement ring and left her stunning brown tresses open. The style icon completed her ensemble with nude heels.
