Harry and Meghan Set for First Joint UK Appearance — and It’s a Return to Somewhere Familiar
The Sussexes are finally making a joint outing in the UK, but the timing couldn't be worse.
Weeks after returning, Meghan Markle will finally make her first public appearance in the UK. It will be a joint outing with Prince Harry in Nottingham, a place that holds many memories for the couple. However, the timing could be slightly misaligned, given that the Duke of Sussex was booed at a rugby match last week. However, it is unclear whether the spectators were booing him or the referee.
The Sussexes are seemingly going to trace back their royal roots, as their first-ever royal engagement together was in Nottingham in December 2017. They conducted their first joint royal walkabout there. Their visit this week so far has an itinerary of three stops that mean a lot to the pair: Hubb Community Kitchen, Community Recording Studio, and Epic Partners.
The community kitchen is a group of women displaced by the horrific 2017 Grenfell Tower fire. Markle developed a close bond with the women and even helped their fundraising efforts by partnering with them to publish a cookbook, Together: Our Community Cookbook in 2018. It was her first solo royal project. In 2025, Harry visited the Community Recording Studio, a youth music project. Given the Duke’s love for sport, it is easy to guess why Epic Partners would be the couple’s third stop in Nottingham this week.
It is no secret that Harry and Markle are not the most popular members of the royal family. Both of them have garnered consistently low favorable ratings in YouGov polls. Although their favorable percentages have increased considerably in the past few months, they are still not enough to qualify as a turnaround. But Nottingham is a relatively safe choice to test the waters. So the Sussexes would probably be more comfortable during an already high-pressure trip.
In any case, the Duchess of Sussex’s first outing since her return is certainly exciting. This will be her first public appearance in the UK since 2022. The pair were reportedly booed at the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee church service. The Sussexes had walked alongside Prince William and Kate Middleton during the monarch’s funeral service. The tension between the four of them was palpable.
Since their comeback, Harry has made several solo public appearances. While Markle cheered for him online, this will be the first time she joins him.
