Harry and Meghan May Work as ‘Consultants’ for New Netflix Andrew Special, Claims Source

Industry chatter suggests a one-off Crown special could focus on Andrew — and place the Sussexes in a delicate position.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor may have shaken the Crown in real life—but he could soon be visible in one on screen. Fresh reports suggest Netflix is exploring a return to the world of The Crown with a special focused on the disgraced former Duke of York. And in an unexpected twist (or perhaps not so unexpected), Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are allegedly being discussed as possible ‘consultants’ on the project.

According to a Feb. 27 report by the Daily Mail (via PEOPLE!), Netflix is considering a one-off special of The Crown in the wake of the former Duke of York’s historic arrest on Feb. 19. While nothing has been official yet, the report claims conversations are underway about revisiting the royal saga in a new format. “The events of the week are historic and unprecedented. There have been discussions for some time with Left Bank Pictures, which owns the rights to The Crown, for a series of one-off specials about royal scandals and dramas,” a source told the outlet.

The insider added, “The Crown as a series has ended, but the name will live on. There have been advanced talks about doing a limited series, under The Crown banner, about the Andrew saga, which is as dramatic, if not more dramatic, than anything shown in the original series, which included episodes on the abdication and the death of Diana.”

The suggestion is that the Mountbatten-Windsor controversies, which have already been widely covered across global media, could form the basis of a tightly focused drama, separate from the six-season arc that chronicled the monarchy from 1947 to 2005. Netflix had previously confirmed that season six would mark the end of the series, and Morgan himself stated that he “always wanted” the show to “remain a careful distance” from the present, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

But now a twist has emerged. Commentator Neil Sean has claimed that Harry and Markle could be drawn into the project—not necessarily as participants on screen, but possibly in a consultancy capacity. Taking to his YouTube channel, Sean claimed the Sussexes could find themselves in what he described as a “real tricky corner” if Netflix moves ahead with a dramatization of Mountbatten-Windsor’s downfall. Speaking about the possibility of a one- to four-part special, he suggested the couple’s broader streaming deal could “be reactivated on this level,” particularly if the platform sees value in expanding the story under a dramatic banner.

Sean argued that the bone of contention here is its appearance. Harry has made clear in the past that he wants distance from his uncle, and Sean acknowledged that he would “100% say not interested.” However, he added, “You never know with Harry and Meghan.” The financial incentive, he implied, could complicate matters, claiming Netflix would be “waving a nice, juicy check.” Sean also floated the idea that involvement would not necessarily mean appearing on screen. Instead, he suggested they “could become consultants,” offering behind-the-scenes input on accuracy—weighing in on details such as "Is this the right thing? Do you know if this happened, et cetera?” Even so, he framed the scenario as a dilemma, noting Harry has “no love for Uncle Andy,” while also describing him as “adrift, angry, upset,” particularly amid ongoing tensions over security arrangements.

Amazon and Disney are also said to be monitoring developments closely, suggesting that Mountbatten-Windsor’s latest chapter is being viewed not just as royal drama, but as prime streaming material.
