Harry and Meghan Insist They Never Agreed to a "Half-In, Half-Out" Royal Ban
The King recently reaffirmed the late Queen's stance regarding the Sussexes, emphasizing they should be regarded as private citizens.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from royal duties in 2020 and relocated to California, where they lived for nearly six years. In August, they reversed ‘Megxit’ and resettled in the UK with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. King Charles recently reiterated the terms of the Sandringham summit in an open letter, clarifying that the couple remains "non-working" royals and that their HRH titles will stay in abeyance. However, the Sussexes have pushed back, asserting that they wish to be recognized as "public figures" rather than "private citizens." Now, a source close to the couple has doubled down, claiming they "never agreed" to give up a "half-in, half-out" royal role.

"It doesn't trouble them. They never agreed they wouldn't be half in, half out. That was what was decided and foisted upon them. They're just living their lives, and they can, because they're financially independent," a close friend exclusively told HELLO! This completely contradicts what the Sussexes expressed in 2020. They had expressed gratitude towards Queen Elizabeth II and the royal family for their support, as stated by Buckingham Palace in January of that year. The statement further confirmed their agreement to step back from royal duties, including military appointments, while retaining their private patronages and associations with the Queen's blessing.

The King recently reaffirmed the late Queen's stance regarding the Sussexes, emphasizing that they should be regarded as private citizens. A letter from Lord Chamberlain Lord Benyon clarified that the Duke and Duchess's charitable activities are personal and not representative of any royal obligations, likening their role to private citizens engaged in commercial and charitable endeavors. Meanwhile, the Sussexes will duly be seen today as a "unit," supporting three charitable causes in Nottingham. This marks their very first outing after returning to the UK, bringing their story full circle since their appearance together at the same place in 2017.

Planned at short notice, their visit coincides with King Charles and Queen Camilla's historic opening of the Senedd. Meanwhile, a source close to Markle confirmed that the Duchess will be participating in more causes as she comfortably puts down roots in the UK. "Her diary is full. It's the kids, As Ever, acting, and then supporting good causes in whatever time she has left over," the source said.
