Harry Allegedly ‘Begging’ to Return to the UK ― but Meghan Cannot Forget the ‘Pain and Scrutiny’
Despite stepping down from his royal duties and leaving the UK in 2020 for a more private life in California, Prince Harry has had a change of heart. As per recent reports, the Duke of Sussex is allegedly ‘begging’ his wife, Meghan Markle, to return to his home country, something that has caused a notable strain in his marriage. The Duchess, on the other hand, is said to be completely against the idea of leaving the US, driven by a much more personal fear.
Harry has been quite hopeful for a royal reconciliation. A source close to the Sussexes told the Daily Express that the Duke considers moving back to the UK as an ‘urgent’ matter, given King Charles’ declining health. However, Markle is said to be dreading the move, as she allegedly associates the country with “unhappiness, fear, and anxiety.” Her fears come as no surprise, as since stepping back as a working royal, she has been quite candid about why her time in the royal fold was so painful. From severe mental health struggles to lack of protection and concerns over racism, she associates the country with constant stress and bad memories.
Talking about the issues in Harry and Markle’s marriage, the source explained, “Their marriage is under strain — not because of a lack of love, but because of opposing fears.” They also said, “Harry is begging to come home… He knows his father is ill and he feels time slipping away. For him, 2026 feels urgent.” On the other hand, Markle is determined not to rush back to the country she deeply associates with “pain, scrutiny, and unfinished business.” As per the insider, the Duchess does not want to put herself in that position again and feels upset that the idea is even being discussed.
After a period of 19 months, Harry reunited with his father in September while he was back in the UK for the WellChild Awards. The private meeting, which lasted for about 50 minutes, took place at Clarence House, with the two sharing a cup of tea. Since then, it is believed that the Duke is pushing hard for a reconciliation with his estranged family. After his UK visit, the Duke then traveled to Ukraine, where he shared his honest thoughts about his father and also hinted at what the future holds for the two. Speaking to The Guardian, he not only admitted that he’s ‘closer’ to bringing his kids back to his homeland but also suggested that over the coming year, his father would be his main ‘focus.’
With the Home Office now officially re-examining his security arrangements, a royal reunion might happen sooner rather than later. While Harry is said to be relieved after this update, as per the Daily Express source, Markle knows if they win their battle for police protection, the “single biggest practical barrier to Harry returning to Britain with his family” would be gone. “She worries that if the security issue is resolved, the expectation will be that she has no reason left to say no. And she’s not sure she’s ready for that – emotionally or psychologically,” the source opined. Although Charles is also said to want to embrace his son with open arms, only time will tell if the royal family and the Sussexes will ever truly be able to bury the hatchet.
