Expert Claims Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are Plotting Secret 'Backdoor' Return to Royal Family

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as working royals in 2020, but kept their HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles. As per a recent report that quoted a friend of the Duke's, Harry is eager for his children Archie and Lilibet, who became Prince and Princess when King Charles ascended the throne, to also have HRH titles. In light of the same, a royal expert has claimed that this may be a means by which the Sussexes are hoping to make a 'backdoor' return to the royal family.

The expert's comments come after the Sussex children’s passport row. An insider told The Guardian that UK officials were reluctant to issue Archie and Lilibet passports with their royal titles. As such, Harry, ‘out of sheer exasperation,’ allegedly considered changing his and his children's surname to that of his late mother, Princess Diana’s, Spencer, amid the delay. Reportedly, they finally received the passport six months after they had initially applied. The procedure would have taken a longer time if it were not for a “threatening letter to pursue a data subject access request” sent to UK officials by Harry and Markle's legal team. The source also claimed that the royal family, especially Charles, was against Archie and Lilibet having the titles in their passports.

Commenting on the Sussexes’ emphasis on their children holding the HRH titles, Daily Mail’s Richard Eden claimed that the couple may ‘stage a return’ to the family with the help of their children. He said, “Could the Sussexes, who chose to give up boring old public duties to seek their fortune in the US, stage a return to the royal fold via their children?” He slammed, “I find this very hard to understand. Harry and Meghan apparently found official duties and life within the royal family unbearable, yet they want this for their children. It doesn't make sense.”

The expert also wondered why Harry and Markle would want their children to have the option of returning to royal life in the future. Eden said, “Why would she and Harry want their children to return to the 'goldfish bowl' of royal life? My suspicion is that this is less about the future roles of their children and more about maintaining Harry and Meghan's royal links now.”

Eden further opined, “Meghan, in particular, seems well aware of the value of the HRH titles, which they reportedly insisted were printed on their children's passports. Just last week, the Duchess spoke about possibly running a company with her daughter, Princess Lilibet, in the future.” He added, “I wonder, would it perhaps be better for business if Lili were an American princess in line for a dramatic return to the royal family?"
