Beatrice and Eugenie May Not Know Where Their Mother Is — and Fergie Wouldn’t Have It Any Other Way

Rob Shuter reveals Sarah Ferguson’s total disappearance, claiming even King Charles and Prince William are being kept out of the loop.

A question that has of late bothered the Palace as well as royal enthusiasts is where exactly is Sarah Ferguson? The former Duchess of York, a constant fixture in social circles, has effectively retreated from the public eye, with her last public appearance being at the funeral of Katharine, Duchess of Kent, in September 2025. While the public wonders about her whereabouts, royal journalist Rob Shuter suggests that Fergie’s lack of communication isn’t just limited to distant relatives, but extends to the immediate family currently steering the monarchy. The timing of the move, however, looks quite strategic as per sources.

Writing on his Naughty But Nice Substack, Shuter quoted an insider who told him, “No one knows exactly where she is…And that includes the very top,” confirming that even King Charles and Prince William are out of the loop. Given her lifelong affinity for the spotlight, Fergie’s disappearance is particularly jarring to observers. However, rather than a cause for alarm, many view this total withdrawal from public life as a calculated move, especially for a woman known for her deep-seated love for the London social circuit. “She’s not someone who disappears for good…She always comes back,” the source told Shuter.

Those close to her suggest that the silence is likely a deliberate move from someone who understands the power of timing. The insider explained, “She’s thinking about a comeback,” pointing out that, when it comes to the former Duchess, “timing is everything.” The vacuum of information, however, has raised eyebrows within the family, leading to questions about how much her own daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, truly know about the situation. According to the source, “There’s real uncertainty about how much Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie know….They may not have the full picture either.”

Those familiar with Fergie’s history of crawling back into the limelight despite scandals believe this is simply the prelude to a new chapter. Away from prying eyes, Ferguson is allegedly orchestrating her next move — something that insiders believe is aimed at achieving maximum impact upon her return. While tabloid headlines are fueled by the ongoing speculation, the message from people close to the Palace remains one of confident anticipation. “She’ll resurface,” the source confidently noted, adding, “And when she does, it will be on her terms.” The insider further highlighted that it is almost impossible to keep “Fergie out of the spotlight,” and that her eventual comeback is simply a “matter of time.”

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams previously commented on Ferguson’s ‘comeback’ plans — observing that she will “almost certainly try some sort of comeback, but in what form and how” is still up for debate. Even so, he expressed significant doubt regarding her success. “I can't see it working.” The uncertainty surrounding her future moves remains a primary concern for the monarchy, Fitzwilliams said, adding that for the Firm, it is a “horrifying prospect that there could be television” if she agrees to a tell-all interview.
