Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Is ‘Utterly Convinced’ He Will Win Legal Action Against Police: Source
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is 'upbeat' and believes he will win his legal tussle against Thames Valley Police.
Earlier this week, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor took legal action against Thames Valley Police over his February arrest on suspicion of misconduct while in public office. The High Court will hear his appeal on Thursday to quash the search warrants. A judge at the Old Bailey had previously issued warrants allowing police to sweep his residence at Sandringham Estate and Royal Lodge. However, the disgraced royal is seemingly not only hopeful but 'utterly convinced' he will win the legal battle.
Mountbatten-Windsor reportedly feels 'upbeat' and 'buoyant', a mood that, perhaps, can only be felt by someone who wholeheartedly believes he will be 'completely exonerated' one day. An insider claimed that it is the former Duke of York’s “first step” towards clearing his name. The ex-prince’s fall from grace, after the discovery of his involvement in the Epstein scandal, had been somewhat sluggish. But the arrest effectively erased him from the monarchy. The man who once stood beside the late Queen on the balcony of Buckingham Palace was no longer even invited to events.
But if reports are to be believed, Mountbatten-Windsor has been invited to dinner parties at the Norfolk estate following his recent legal action. It could be a sign that he could be “welcomed back” in some way from the fringes of society. However, the same can’t be said for the royal family, as King Charles has drawn a firm boundary when it comes to supporting his brother.
The former Duke of York receives an annual stipend from the monarch’s private funds. But now, he has been told in no uncertain terms that the money coming from his elder brother can’t be used to finance his Judicial Review against Thames Valley Police. A statement also clarified that the legal discourse is a matter entirely between Mountbatten-Windsor and his legal team, and Buckingham Palace will play no part in any strategy or actions.
The move reiterates Charles’ statement following his brother’s arrest earlier this year. “The law must take its course,” he had insisted via Hello! Mountbatten-Windsor’s shocking legal action may have come at a wrong time for the Palace, as the monarchs are currently preparing for an important Caribbean tour at the end of this month. The news has also come on the heels of the Sussexes’ return to the UK and Earl Spencer’s bombshell book about Princess Diana, each situation complete with its own set of dramas.
Whether the disgraced royal’s legal move will change his social standing can only be determined over time. But at the moment, there doesn’t seem to be any place for him within the royal fold.
