Royal Canine Enthusiasts
The British royal family is known for their love of dogs and horses. They are famously proud dog parents and dote upon their four-legged children. The late Queen Elizabeth loved her corgis so much that they essentially became a part of her signature brand. Queen Camilla fits right into this fold, as she and King Charles are parents to two beautiful rescued dogs, and continue to make more four-legged friends wherever they travel.
The One That Caught Her Eye
Charles and Camilla were on the final lap of their three-day surprise visit to Northern Ireland this week. After separate engagements on Thursday morning, the monarchs joined each other at Conway Square in Newtownards, where they visited market stalls and greeted the crowds who had gathered to see them. During an impromptu walkabout, Camilla petted many dogs that people had brought along, but it was one particular four-legged cutie that stole her heart. The puppy seemed to have instantly clicked with the Queen, considering it even tried to lick her.
When You Know, You Know
Camilla serves as the patron of several animal welfare charities and organizations and enthusiastically takes part in all of their events. Her love for animals was on display as she played with her new canine friend at Conway Square. The cute puppy returned the affection as it snuggled with the Queen Consort, creating one of the cutest moments of the Northern Ireland tour.
Precious Photo Op
Camilla could be seen trying to have a conversation with her new friend. It seemed like a joyful interaction as the 78-year-old could later be seen posing happily with the puppy with a wide grin on her face.
Heartfelt Interactions
The Queen Consort had started her day on a poignant note by meeting survivors of domestic abuse at the Women’s Aid in Newtownards. After a triumphant engagement at Conway Square, Camilla and Charles visited The Warehouse, a former pub that was converted into a community hub that provides free food supplies, hot and take-home meals, skills classes, and access to household essentials and free clothing.
Visiting Paddington
Although not technically a canine or even an animal, Camilla also made it a point to pose with Newtownards’ beloved Paddington Bear statue, which is Northern Ireland’s only stop on the UK-wide Paddington Visits trail. Students, clutching teddy bears, joined her for some adorable pictures.
