William and Kate Cherish Meaningful Final Summer Before Prince George’s Big Move
Prince George's final summer before Eton is all about family time as William and Kate prepare for his biggest milestone yet.
Prince George will be turning 13 soon, bringing an exciting new academic chapter. In just a few weeks, he will be packing his bags for boarding school—marking a major shift for the Wales family. Before that happens, Prince William and Princess Kate are making the most of the summer break, cherishing every moment together as a family before George officially begins this new journey.
Once George heads to Eton in September, the Wales family's day-to-day life is bound to look quite different. Even though the school is just a short drive from their Windsor home, his move to full-time boarding after his 13th birthday on July 22 will still be a major adjustment.
That is why this summer is especially meaningful, giving William and Kate plenty of time to enjoy quiet family moments before this next chapter begins. With the school holidays underway, the couple treated George and Charlotte to a day out at the Wimbledon men's final on July 12, giving royal fans another glimpse of the siblings' close bond before life takes a new turn this autumn.
Royal author Simon Vigar told HELLO!, “George is about to become a teenager, so it's a huge moment for them as parents. And he is, of course, heading off to boarding school in September.” He added, “Eton is just around the corner from where they live, so they're going to be pretty nearby, but it’s a big summer ahead for them.”
Robert Jobson shared a similar view, noting that William and Kate likely realize just how fast time is flying. He explained, “They've done a very good job bringing up the children and focusing on their own family unit. Despite all the other drama going on in the family, they rise above it, and seeing them out there together at events like Wimbledon is just a really positive, lovely image.”
Starting at Eton this September, George will not just be beginning classes at a new school. According to reports, the future king—who will have turned 13 by then—is also expected to participate in one of Eton's long-standing traditions on his very first day. New pupils are typically given the school's "colours test," where they are quiz-tested on the official colors of Eton's 25 boarding houses as well as key locations around the historic campus. And the young prince will be sure to take part in that.
