Why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Haven’t Made a Joint Appearance Since Visiting the UK

Prince Harry has been making more solo appearances lately, and royal expert Maureen Callahan cannot help but notice the shift.

Following their successful reunion with King Charles in the UK, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to Montecito to focus on their independent ventures. Just days later, the Duke of Sussex stepped out solo in New York City to attend the inaugural TIME100 Most Influential People Sports Gala. Royal expert Maureen Callahan suggests his unaccompanied appearance may have been a calculated move toward reconciliation with his father, with Markle deliberately taking a step back from the spotlight to help mend ties with the royal family.

As reported by Sky News, Callahan claimed that Harry was fed up with the gossip that painted him as "being the prodigal son, lonely, aimless, and largely jobless up in Montecito" and that the monarch was his easy ticket to a comeback. That being said, the expert stressed that the Prince's best hope for a resolution with Charles was Markle "quieting down and maintaining a lower profile." She added, "Harry was alone in the UK for most of his trip, with Meghan and the children joining at the last minute — and Meghan wasn't photographed once, which nullifies her and Harry's claims that the media just won't leave them alone."

Callahan also highlighted Harry's July 16 solo appearance at the Time100 Sports Gala. At the same time, Markle quietly celebrated her Emmy nomination for With Love, Meghan on social media without giving a shoutout to her husband and avoiding public events altogether. This, she noted, was Markle's way of being on board with Harry's efforts to mend fences with his family, as she has allegedly 'alienated' all those who offered her help in the US. "Right now, it seems, no one is more valuable than Harry — and nothing is more valuable than what he wants."

With that in mind, the Sussexes are also said to be eager to return to the UK. Royal expert Alison Boshoff wrote in the Daily Mail, "It seems that a return to the UK is being contemplated in some form and that the couple's holiday home in Portugal will be used as a staging post back to Britain." Since stepping down as senior royals, Harry and Markle have carved out a separate life for themselves and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in the US. However, a friend of the Duke revealed that there was "definitely a feeling in his [Harry's] camp that he has started to feel a bit unwelcome in America."

The friend added that there has been an "increasing and significant shift in sentiment, a feeling that the American dream might not be all that it was cracked up to be." This perspective is reportedly shared by both Harry and Meghan, who have gradually come to accept this reality. "I hear that Meghan is all for rekindling with and reconnecting with Harry's English side," the source shared. "She is fully behind it."
