Sophie Just Brought Back Her Old Signature Look — And Fans Are Saying the Same Thing

As the UK grapples with the ongoing heatwave, Duchess Sophie seems to have found a stylish solution to the scorching sun: a chic bob cut. The royal seemingly returned to her old signature hairstyle when she attended the Groundswell Regenerative Agriculture festival in Hertfordshire on Wednesday. Her blonde hair, which in recent years has flown past her shoulders, appeared to be in a neat, fuss-free hairdo just skimming her chin. And while the new haircut must have certainly aided the Duchess of Edinburgh as she performed her royal duties in the rising temperatures, it also earned her compliments from netizens who felt she had shaved some years off her age, along with her tresses.

Sophie’s new haircut made waves on social media, as royal fans poured into comment sections to gush over it. “I swear she’s aging in reverse,” one fan said, while another wrote, “Much nicer - looks younger and a better cut for a hot summer.” One fan commented, "Absolutely loving Sophie's fresh new bob! It looks so chic and flattering on her — instantly youthful and elegant," while another mentioned, "Looks fresh and younger." One netizen put it simply: "This hairstyle makes her look younger!"

The Duchess paired the shorter hairstyle with a rustic outfit of a navy blue blouse and blue denim skirt. She completed her ensemble with gold hoop earrings, a pendant, bracelet, and sunglasses that were comfortably perched on her head. To add to that, she wore brown suede cowboy boots for the event, fully committed to the country theme.

Although the hairstyle is certainly a jaw-dropper, this is not the first time that Sophie has adopted a shorter cut. During her 1999 wedding to Prince Edward, the beloved royal wore a baby bob, which was in line with 90s trends. In fact, it had become her signature look. She had proudly worn a bob cut in 2011 as well, during her niece Zara Tindall’s wedding festivities. That was the last time that the Duchess had worn her hair short, until this week. While many women in the royal family, including the late Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana, fashioned short hair, so much so that it had become their signature style, in recent times, most female royals have sported longer tresses.

Most famously, Kate Middleton’s long brown hair is extremely popular, which is a striking contrast to the fashion of the previous eras. But it seems that with the constant heatwaves and now Sophie styling her hair short again, bob cuts may see a resurgence. But before the Duchess heralded in a new phase of hairstyling, she made an appearance at a carriage driving competition earlier this week, alongside her husband, Edward, and disgraced brother-in-law, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. Sophie handed out prizes to the winners.

While the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh may have met with one scandalous member of the royal family, two more controversial royals are set to arrive in the UK this month. However, it is unclear if Sophie and Edward will see Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
